This is exactly why privacy is being ignored. You just bend over and take it

Guess that means I can look at your emails because you have nothing to hide right?

Maybe stare at you while you go number 2 (yes, gross but related to privacy)?

I meant to write "lets stop this" but phrased it sloppy/opposite for some strange reason.

My privacy has nothing to do with Win10 data collection. Neither do yours.

While I’m not going to put anything out there on the argument of security or “personal liberty” and privacy … Just want to chime in on something, since it always seems to be lost in these types of discussions with regard to privacy and the direction of OS’s.

Almost everyone speaks of Windows 10 as if that's the ONLY choice that they have (ultimately for support, security updates, etc, down the road). Yet, that’s not really true at all whenever you think of it. Nobody is actually forcing you to use Windows (albeit with the exception of online-gaming [thanks to exclusivity from anti-hack solutions, that pretty much rule out Wine] ).

--What I mean by that really is that Linux, Mac, or heck, even Android based desktops, FreeBSD, you name it, are perfectly viable OS's. All of these are just fine for business productivity and every-day use (minus gaming). Either way, there's a lot of options out there that people seem to forget about. I personally do my email on Linux, my media PC's are Linux, servers are Linux & BSD --- often browse from Linux, infact only my dev machines and gaming machines at that even still run Windows at this point.

If people are unhappy with Microsoft's OS and its direction, they’ll go elsewhere or simply start to use it less. So really I think the question should be less on whether or not they're taking things too far, and more on if Microsoft wants to segment their market where people use Windows less and less.

--Whether right or wrong, going too far or not in information collection, it irks alot of customers.

EDIT:
Put another way, even if people decide that "it's fine". Following the we'll wait and see how people vote with their wallets still may result in Windows' hold slipping a bit, and I doubt they want that to happen. It's usually a mistake to gamble with upsetting your customers.

With minimum collection allowed your probably correct, it depends on how much of it the end user allows and if MS actually manages to keep it away from human eyes and ears, typing, camera, microphone etc.
The general idea is to let servers analyze the collected data, but you can't really be sure that no one is snooping in can you?

Speak for yourself please. Win10 data collection or any data collection in the past, present and future is all susceptible to breach and theft. Playstation, steam, yahoo, facebook, my ISP's email servers (which i never use) etc. all have had past incidents of data breaches.

It is a component of your general life's privacy for what you do online... don't be naive to think this situation has nothing to do with privacy.

There is no "acceptable" amount of privacy in a situation. Either you have it or you don't.

And? Who's to blame that you have something of value on a computer device connected to a publicly accessible network? MS? Nope, it's you.

No, it's you who still don't get it. If it's nothing of value then there's no harm in sharing it with whoever want it. There are many absolutely positive applications for such data collection.

Demagogy at its best. Your penis photos don't have any value and yet you probably don't want to share them with anyone, or I hope at least

Oh golly gee, and here I thought people could have discussions on online forums, it's a good thing "tsunami231" is here to let us know we're derailing the topic even though we're not. Thanks mom.

Why don't you explain why people don't get it? I've seen solid reasoning from those against anti-privacy practises, I've seen nothing from you but the claim that others just don't get it.

you trolls turned this "Poll" in to a privacy/telemetry debate. IFthis was ABOUT privacy/telemetry it would what the poll is about.

This is a discussion about what O/S people use and why, the anti-privacy argument is a valid one.

Great, so in your world we should stop using computers to store any personal data. You've just destroyed IT industry, well done. And nobody is blaming internet, the OS should provide secure environment in every way user demands.

So in this case the 'why' people use Windows 7 over 10 is because they feel that 10 has privacy issues. They then structure their reasoning for that opinion. You're for some reason coming up with rules as to how this thread functions, I'm not sure why you want to demand what people do while calling others trolls.

If people literally just wanted the poll data, they don't even need to read the thread. When someone asks which O/S people use between 7 and 10, the question of why they use their chosen O/S and not the other is implicit.

You not liking the reasoning others have is irrelevant.

Yours truly and the rest of the staff is getting rather tired of babysitting the same aggressive tone and people all the time. First infractions are handed out. Don't complain if you cannot access your account anymore okay ? Keep it friendly & respectful towards each other if you can't, then you have no place on these forums.
