Alright, I put something similar to this in general hardward, because I didnt know if a computer screen was applicable to this... but here it goes. I am looking for a new computer screen. I would perfer to buy something that has 1920X1200 as a native resolution but, if I had to I could get 1920X1080. I have looked at some screens which I have posted below. Please comment/reccomend! I would like to hear opinions on the Samsung 2433BW. I have looked hard at this monitor and I might buy it.

Here are other screens I have looked at and have considered

    1920X1200
    -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001309
    -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824112011

1920X1080 - these are just out there, id rather a 1920X1200 screen
    -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009157
    -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009162

as you can see its easier to fine a 1920X1200 monitor, so, thats why I have some 1080's listed. So, okay this is my real point. What resolution should I get (regardless of graphics card), which res is better for gaming. Do most new games support 1920X1200? Since Ive looked at the samsung 2433BW ( the first linked screen ) alot, can anybody tell me about it. Is it good?

If you have anything else to tell me, please do!

most if not all games really support a myriad of any possible resolution.
i'd been on the 1680x1050 train for a while, but just recently discovered these cheap 1080p monitor's, and would much rather have one of those now.

I would say get a 1920x1080, because it would be a LITTLE less graphically taxing, they're priced like 1680x1050 monitors, and have HDMI inputs for broad compatibility

I'll look for a few more 1080 monitors. Is there really a difference in the 16:9 and 16:10 ratio for screens? Like, movies, viewing pictures, (obviously games,) and other stuff?

i don't have one on hand to take measurements to determine if its aspect ratio coincides with its actual visible dimensions, but i'm sure there wouldn't be any problem with it. HD movies have 16:9 ratios, any monitor at its native resolution will display pictures properly, and like i've already mentioned, most games have the option for any 4:3, 5:4, 16:10, and 16:9 resolution under the sun.

Part of the purpose of getting the 1920X1200 I figured is for viewing pictures... If my dad every decided to get a nice camara, insted of having to page down and up on your screen to see it, you could see the whole image in all of its beauty. I eventually plan on getting 2 gtx 260 c 216's, so I think that would be plenty to power that screen, then again, im still not sure, lol.

Make sure you check each manufacturers dead/stuck pixel policy as well.

It depends on the size of your photos. And a "nice" camera will produce photos bigger than 1900x1200 anyway. A lot bigger.

Thats a pretty painful price to pay for a brand name I havent heard of before. Im not saying its bad, I just like to stick w/ brand name when I buy computer stuff.

You havent heard of Westinghouse? lol their part of CBS/Viacom but their stuff arent that bad its like those TV brands such as vizio, they're good for the value. Plus I just threw it on there because it was on sale for a while, not gonna find a 26" for $250 hehe.

O didnt see the 26" part. I'm not too worried about size. 24" is gonna be pretty big already. My mom might get ticked off at me getting something bigger =D

Ah yeah true... while 22" are becoming the standard 24" is good, I wanna upgrade mine as well, im dual screening a 22" and a 17" heh, and I only get 720p on my xbox so yeah going for a 24" is a sweetspot.

What features are you looking for in particular?

Well, probably 1920X1200 ( thats what 24" tends to come in ). I'm looking at samsung just because I know they are the bomb with every screen they make. I also like the look of the surround. I know thats not the reason to buy a screen, but hey you gotta like how it looks right? I guess 75hz refresh rate, I'm so used to that I really dont know anything else. It just needs to look pretty, and work well for gaming and thats about it. Plus, if I get a 1920X1200 screen, I get the bragging rights of saying I have 1200p and its an above hd screen .

Yeah okay I looked online but never really found a better price for the Samsung 2433BW than the one on Newegg, the ones that were lower priced were mostly refurbished. As for choices its between that and the ASUS VH242H, both of those fit your needs though the Samsung model you're looking at doesnt have HDMI (if thats a setback for ya) and the ASUS one does. The Samsung has a resolution of 1920x1200 while the ASUS is 1920x1080 which again both look good but you will be only using 1080 when watching bluray etc... So its most likely having a bigger desktop space and bragging rights/some games play that res. :p.

I personally prefer the ASUS but thats if I was buying it and putting it accord my needs (HDMI for 360 etc...) and the price is really nice at $250 while the Samsung is a bit more. Both are good its just your preference that will usually be the deciding factor.... but seriously go for the 26" lol its all about the size!!
