Agreed, it might not be the best card around in it's price range, but imho, it will do for me.
My old GTX 295 is slowly dying and comsumes to much power. Games need a working SLI profile or the card will not perform.
It supports up to DX10, and considering I got Win7Pro 64bit, I need an upgrade without spending too much.
Who else is planning to buy the GTX960, or has already bought one?

The card itself is not bad at all, there are some factors that are amazing. The TDP, the ROP, the bandwidth, for this card they're amazing and the performance proves this!

The problem is the price, the price shouldn't be a sub $200 range. I would say closer to maybe $160 or so, but then again I said the same thing about the 750 ti.

I do think once this card gets in the right price segment, it'll be a wonderful card all around. Until then, my statement about the card will be it's a nice card but a little too high on the MSRP.

The 960 isn't a bad card for what it is. I have seen 1 budget computer built with a 960 in it online. Plus the 960 OCs like a champ like their big brothers the 970 and 980 do.

    Its "low" power consumption. :)

    http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/946/bench/Power_02.png

An 150-180W TDP card like R9 270/270X consume less power than "120W" TDP new card Gtx 960.Weird isnt it?
So called "low TDP" is a Big Lie,remember last trouble from Gtx 970.

Well the performance against R9 270X is not the issue here.

Yeah, nvidia has had a lot of trouble matching their own targeted paper specs lately.

So far I tested Skyrim and Diablo 3.
In Skyrim, I can crank up AA and AF to two samples, everything else on high and view distance all to the max.
Diablo 3 runs smooth , with vsync, everything maxed out.
    I'm happy thus far.

It's too expensive for the performance.

Marginally faster than my 760 GTX, and I got it for just 160€ (used) over a year ago. You can play pretty much everything, just have to sacrifice a little AA and turn down a setting or two.

A better deal would be a 770 GTX, which you can now find used for 200€.

Edit: I'm an Nvidia guy, but the best value out there right guy is definitely the AMD R9 290. It's close to the 970, and I'm looking at a store selling it new for 248€! :eek3: That's less ~5 fps for less 100€!

FYI TDP does not equal power consumption.

By now I shouldn't have to explain this anymore....

TDP, also known as "Thermal Design Power" is a measure of the heat, represented in Watts, that has to be dissipated for a component to maintain a safe operating temperature. This rating has no correlation to power consumption.

@Agent-A01 & sykozis: I know that, the TDP is not equal to power consumption.
Gtx 960s are "low TDP" card, not much powerful than old Gtx 760,but consumes more watt than R9 270/270X "power hungry" cards.
    I prefer Gtx 760 256bit than Gtx960 128bit. :)

    http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/946/bench/Power_02.png

How could you explain that?Weird cards make nvidia, including the "the best of the best" 3.5GB Gtx 970.

@HellSpawn2097 Congrats for your aquisition. But these days (2014-2015) you need a 256bit memory bus card, especially in new games and max settings.
Sorry but soon your card will be obsolete and you will regrete this aquisition.
Its true you cant find from nvidia a new card better than Gtx 760 or Gtx 770 and low price, but think about these cards perform better than Gtx 960 128bit.

    And please try DX11 games,not Dx9 old games. ;)

Skyrim? Try SweetFX with SMAA, Lift Gamma Gain, and Vibrance. Also if you want the game as smooth as possible set vsync to on under Skyrim's profile in the nVidia CP; that will squash occasional flicker on water too. For some reason, setting it in a global manner doesn't work as well.

Tested some more games, Wolfenstein The New Order runs pretty crappy, but hey, my cpu is to blame.
Grid Autosport runs both screens, everything on high with FXAA and 2XMSAA.
No drops, need to test full grid races.
Black Ops 2 runs with everything maxed out, with vsync @ 60fps.

    Nice article, really.
However, I tend to use the gaming app provided by MSI, ans the cards throttles to 1354Mhz core clock when in OC mode.
Most of my games don't need more power.
Maybe I will need extra power when buying "the evil within", wich is a full DX11 title.
As for now, BL2 and TPS run with everything apart from AA and Physx, maxed out.

I also ran the fire mark demo test from 3dmark and ended up with 5768 points.

I just got the Gigabyte's OC version of the card to replace my 660 TI so I can 'try' to run Dying Light until I finish my upgrades. After reading the review from this site, I thought maybe I should have wait for the TI version of the card which might be out soon? Anyhow, I should get some additional performance out of it once I ditch my old processor for the i5 4790K.
