I can't work this one out. The CPU should have a max speed of 3.2Ghz with turbo mode. But when I run the Intel burn test with CPU clock speed running in the background the clock speed is never going above 1.5Ghz. Even after running the standard test.

Any ideas why this might be?

Yah, stop burning your laptop! can't be good for it.

Nah, I have read of smaller laptops that cannot quite handle the heat (w110er comes to mind) either dropping turbo pretty fast into a load or having it disabled altogether, what laptop is this?

    Has it always done this?

I figured it out in the end. I had to reboot as I installed NET framework 2.0. Everything seems to be running ok now.

Wait installing a program caused your cpu to throttle?

    That's weird

I needed to install NET Framework 2.0 for the burn test to load. Then I installed some Framework Windows updates. I didn't reboot as it never asked me too. Which is when I noticed the clock speed wasn't going above 1.5Ghz.
