Can someone give me the quick down and dirty on which settings under Direct3D give the best speed, quality not important.

Just try to use "High performance" preset

    Road_Runner Guest

to answer both responses, I'm using a TBird@1.5ghz/GeForce3 with 12.90 drivers opening the 12.60 database. The High Performance preset in RivaTuner is actually alot slower than NVMax with settings of mipmap enabled, LOD detail bias at 2.0, no AA, fog table emulation, etc, etc. My 3DMark2001 score drops by about 100 points.

I did find that setting D3D_LodBiasADjust from the default of 14 to 20 did seem to buy me a little improvement in 3DMark2001 score. I was able to achieve a 7004 Default bench score with that setting but I feel like I'm working blind in using these settings?

Any tips? The manual and faq don't really give DETAILED explanations of each setting under the Direct3D tab.

    With a 1.5 + GF3 u should be interested in maximum quality.
Who gives a **** if u have gf3 if it looks worse then my TNT2?

There are some things that can make works different in NVMax and RivaTuner and can cause a difference in performance with the same settings:

1) NVMax has buggy LOD bias adjustment. Value of 2 in NVMax is really equal to 2.5 coz it uses invalid LOD bias multiplier. Driver can adjust LOD bias in [-15;15] range but I've limited LOD bias adjustment to simplify scale calibration. U can change RivaTuner's LOD bias adjustment interval. To do it just open Default.rtd database (u can hold "Ctrl" and press "Open matched Detonator database" to do it), then select LODBiasRange entry in this database, then Press F1 to get detailed help.
2) User mipmap settings in NVMax don't work at all. If u'll try to disable it in RivaTuner to syncronize it with NVMax settings, u'll get noticable performance drop.
3) Anisotropic filtering settings in NVMax doesn't work properly.

> The manual and faq don't really give DETAILED explanations of each setting under the Direct3D tab.

AFAIK Guru3D guys are writing an article about RivaTuner now. I'm also working on RivaTuner2.0RC6 which has context help system. I hope to publish it on 17th of July (it will be RivaTuner's birthday, one year since RivaTuner2.0 Beta release).
Yeah that's what I was going to say. 1.5 gig, Geforce 3 and looking for the fastest settings? That just makes no sense at all. Are you a guy that's into numbers or a guy that's into using your setup the way it was meant to be?

Hey Mike89...I happen to do both. I bench my system using 3DMark for Direct3D. I Play Q3 at 1600x1200x32 with Quincux AA and 64 tap Anistoropic on.

Why do people have to question motive or intent of someone posting questions. Your post is irrelevant to the question asked. I know Unwinder is available here for questions on his product so I asked. Mind your own business.

This message was edited by Road_Runner on 02 Jul 2001 05:33 AM

Because you post stupid question. Imagine i own a Ferrari who can go with 300kph and i ask what should i do to go with 10kph. Buy a horse God Damn It!

So it is with your post. U should have asked how to enable negative lod, how to disable user mipmaps, how to choose anisotropic filtering, what FSAA method works best, 7.xx or 12.xx, and a gazillion more of this type.
But no, u just wish to show your friends (although after your manner to answer i suspect u don't have any true friends), what marvelous results u get with a syntetic bench and probably what lousy systems they have. U are the man, aren't u ?
Yeah, just close the mouth of anyone speaking something that the man doesn't like. Typical for a bully. And a 10 year kid. I bet u are both.
So listen to your advice and keep your mouth shut. U will grow up faster.

I just read in horror the last postings from Kakaru2 and road_runner.

Seriously, I think road_runner has every right to ask his question and try to get max frames and benchcmark. Kakaru2's remark on the ferrari should actually be the other way around. What road_runner wants is to go even faster by taking of sidemirrors and the passenger seat. See how hard an stripped GF3 goes.
I have to admit i do not like his choice of words to Mike89, but he is right. I just think he took Mike98's reply a little harsh.
I hope that you dont get mad with me for speaking on your behalf, road_runner
Dont rip him a new asshole for this Kakaru2, if he comes off as being rude, you do even more so, what with all these assumptions you made.
Start over again with a more friendly reply(maybe not yet impossible)
I am neither bully nor 10 yrs old. I'm 37 years old with four kids and wouldn't hurt a fly. The responses from Mike89 and this other guy who I wasn't even talking to, are out of line. Stefan is right. "Take the mirrors off the ferrari and see how fast it will really go" was my EXACT intent. I know full will how to tune my GeForce for image quality as that is the way I run it 99.9% of the time.

I heard about this RivaTuner program,it's ability to help wring out every bit of speed in the card, and I was looking for support of the software, not anyone's opinion on my motives.

Kakaru2...You're entitled to your opinions but you make numerous assumptions that you could not possibly be sure are accurate. I didn't aim my post at you, it was at Mike. But since you nosed in...

What good are you doing browsing this forum and crapping on people's questions on product support? What help did your post serve? It's the equivalent of walking up to someone physically, they ask you a question looking for help...and you rant on about how "unneccesary" their request should be because of the way "you" feel about it.

And what's up with the name calling and asking what the F**K I would want to do it for. What's childish here?

No flaming from me. Kakaru2 and Mike89 apparently disagree with the manner in which I wish to utilize your program. Kakaru2 also proceeded with the personal attacks.
I'm posting to this forum for more then half of year now and u know i never flamed anyone. Nor did I started heated debats.
But it comes a time when the righteaous must rise lest the evil will take control and no one will be allowed to speak freely.
However i assure u that my following post will not contain any injuries and will be one that even a newspaper which must respect the rules set by the law could publish it. Moreover it will be my sole reply to that person. After this i'll ignore him.
I really thought you would learn from your previous mistake and pay double attention when you will post again. Silly me, isn't it?

Well, let's take your points one by one, to see why you make such stupid mistakes and you don't even have the guts to admit'em and repair.

Your original post is a true proof of your lack of IT knowledge and posting rules. Considering you are 37 of age that's even worse. Everybody with a bit of backround knows when posting a technical support request to also post the spec of his/her system. That's a major mistake.

But did i called u a stupid or newbie for that?
No, my post in response reads:

quote:
Originally posted by Kakaru2:

I didn't say a single thing about it, as everyone is a just a pack of instincts at birth, so everyone is iliterate in a particular field the time he start to learn it. But a pupil should respect his teachers if he really want to learn new things. And in return his teachers should teach him all that they know for the new mind to grow and God willing to even help the research or development in that particular field. I was teached to respect my elders and my teachers even when after years of hard work i will eventually surpass them.

2.
I then posted this:

What's so offensive about it? We only expressed our deep surprise as to why anyone would want to use such a great system in a way that an impartial observer would think he owns a P200MMX+Voodoo1? Even more, both of our posts were a little ironical and humorous. You really need to put j/k and for you to comprehend the sense of a message?
3.
Now let's look at your post:
STOP right here. That phrase shows either some lacking basic teachings from your parents/tutors/school teachers/etc or you have skipped some classes. When you open your mouth and say something you know that all that you will say will be analysed by the people who heard it. Just the same thing happens with writing. Even more, i might add, as i'm positive that at your lessons of mother language you analysed some poems/novels by great writers of your nation from all point of vue.
The moment you post something, that thing is public and everybody has the right to question everything he/she chooses. It's called free speech btw.
So stop whining. If you are afraid of the wolf then don't go to the forest. j/k (see i learned?).
I'm sorry but no post is irrelevant. Particular the one you're refering (mike89's) as he only express his surprise and i also can feel a smile:
That's outrageous!!! You come to this forum asking for help and you end up being the one shouting orders? Were you appointed dictator? Or what if he doesn't bow to your crazy, ridicolous demands? You will come to his house and shoot him between his eyes? Poison his well? Burn his fields? Raze his house? Send him to jail?

That's so typical for a bully.

quote:
Originally posted by Road_Runner:
Of course you wouldn't. But talk is cheap isnt'it? The bullies want to scare the crap of someone not really hurt him or kill it, as that would imply law enforcement organisations intervention, isnt'it? And you don't want to do time, don't u?
But of course Mr. Why should you, if my assumption of bullishness is right, aim at me? I'm a senior member of the forum and i've been posting here and to nvnews for a long time. And what if i posted before Mike and basically the same thing? No, it's much safer to aim at Mike. Your bad luck is that i don't like bullies.
5.
That's the part i'll prove you're a liar so take heed:
Do you really mister? let's take a quick glance to MikeC's from Nvnews benchmarks.
1024x768x32x64Anisotropic*Quincunx*Texture Compression On :48.5
1024x768x32x64Anisotropic*Quincunx*Texture Compression Off:43.7

And you're playing at 1600*1200*32 Mister? At this res GF3 is fillrate limited , and 1600*1200*32 is 2.441 times more worse than 1024*768*32.
So you would get:19.86 fps
(17.90) fps

And you're playing right? Maybe the game is crawling, which is a big difference
U want to know why i put the result with texture compression off in brackets? Because at your alleged setting the texture requirements for quake3 in a map as dm13, or in a demo like quaver are 110mega. Yeah, Mr., 110MEGA. And Gf3 has only 64 Mega. Which means the result is more likely a 1 digit nomber. I bet that even those 20 fps are optimistic even with tex comp on.
Do u really know Mr.? Then why bother to ask what are the settings for speed as even a 10 years old kid knows that the opposite of quality is performance. Why don't u disable your quality setting and set them at the opposite, ie instead of 32 bit put 16, instead of fsaa put none, and so on.
Kakaru...you have WAY TOO MUCH time on your hands.

I've got no reason to lie about my age or anything about me annonymously over the internet...and if yours and Mike89's original responses had the smiley's and whatnot accompanying your posts that again DID NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION, I probably would not have been perturbed.

I quote your original response..."With a 1.5 + GF3 u should be interested in maximum quality.
Who gives a **** if u have gf3 if it looks worse then my TNT2?"

Who are you to tell me what I should be interested in and how does that relay a lighthearted response. There was no smiley on the end of that brilliant statement. Seems pretty harsh but I guess your pea brain can only relate to 12 year-old language. Go **** yourself you little troll.

Let me quote another response you recently gave someone looking for help..."what cpu goddam?"...yeah that's nice, friendly, and helpful.

I responded to Mike because I tend to ignore people who would curse at me when responding to an innocent request for information as your first response did, asking my what the ****...blah...blah...blah. At least Mike was civilized about it. You've cursed at others in this forum when they simply ask a question as quoted above. Frankly...you have ZERO credibility in my mind.

Your last post continued to impeach my integrity, and now, my upbringing, and intelligence. I know you certainly would not talk to anyone like that were they standing in front of you, you worthless piece of crap. But, if you want to draw me into it, **** off.
