As title says im currently owning 680 jetstream with 4gb vram, and would need some more performance @1080p What about gtx 690? i could get used one for about 160€ + my current gpu. Would the amount of vram become issue? Other option would be used 780, for about same amount of money (~180€) Also, would my old xeon (i7 920) @4.3ghz become bottleneck?
Get the used 780. I went from 680ftw 4gb sli to 780ti sli. Gk110 is on a different stratosphere than gk104.
Well i was just offered used 780 dcu2 with 2.5 years of warranty for my 680 + 165€, should i go for it? and it wouldn't be massively bottlenecked by my old cpu?
I went from 680sli to Asus gtx 780DC2 OC sli and they are great cards just make sure you have good case cooling as they dump some hot air inside the case.
I have HAF 932 case so it should be able to handle the heat... also, would the 780ti be worth the extra buck over the 780?
I would agree before these new drivers came out, but Nvidia is working hard on fixing the Vram issue and it shows. As long as they keep this up with more sets of drivers to come 3GB should be more than enough at 1080p and 2K. Example: BF4 with sets older than 337.50 topped off at 3034MB Vram @ Ultra/4xMSAA/115% SS. With 337.50 BF4 @ Ultra/4xMSAA/130% topped off around 2900MB used. That is a darn good change. But 3GB at 4K I will never recommend, unless you go SLI, even then it's a bit scary. 4GB+ if you ever venture into 4K.
I'm using only 1080p monitor so 3gb's of memory should be enough... and i went for 780 DCU II, ended up paying 150€ plus my old 680... also got Xeon X5690 (990x) for cheap, so im good now
Congrats on the good upgrade the 780s r great I love mine nothing at 1080p lags hard unless it's the games bad programming in some areas. I'm on the new beta drivers and their holding steady right now, picked up guild Wars 2 for half off, I'm getting a slight drop in fps with everything max with super sampling. = /.
