I remember way back in 1999 when I was still in school, Anand was featured in a local magazine for kids as an inspiration for the rest of us who wasted our time on the internet
Well, we'll see what happends. Interesting times ahead. Related: Anand telling how it has been and that he is leaving http://www.anandtech.com/show/8456/the-road-ahead
Bah come on. Anandtech was one of my favorite review sites. They always had interesting articles about gadgets others just wouldn't cover in the same detail. Anand left, then this... Ryan is cool.
I have a feeling Mr. Shimpi walked away with a big smile on his face. http://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/anandtech.com
Rofl -- yeah. Hey Hilbert, Guru3D pulls in a million dollars a year? http://www.worthofweb.com/website-value/guru3d.com These aren't accurate at all.
No, it's not accurate. Nor can it ever actually be. Those figures, for the most part, are guesstimates intended to give an idea of what a site could possibly be making under "ideal" conditions. At least the $ figures are anyway. Page hits can actually be counted, as you well known.
Rip Anandtech. The TomsHardware failboat continues to grow in size. Please never sell out Hilbert. I don't block your ads.
Yeah, $ figures are way off. Checked another couple evaluation sites and they're no where near the link I posted above. One puts AT at around $1.6 mil and another at just under a mil. Who knows what its worth, but I now know that these evaluation sites are worthless.
Anand is only 32? I assumed he was much older.... I found his articles very informative, so yeah I'm disappointed to see him leave - especially since Tom's is getting involved. AT will never be the same again. RIP. Some stats from Alexa, not sure what make of it....after Anand left in April. AT SEO traffic nosedived; but AT's global ranking went up? http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/anandtech.com How does that work?
Tom's isn't getting involved. Ryan Smith is taking over the site (He was the lead GPU reviewer guy) and I think he's more than capable of filling Anand's shoes but it's going to take a while before that happens. Ian and all the other reviewers are also staying for the time being so the quality shouldn't lapse much at all.
I believe they count what ad revenue could have been made, it's weird how they do it.... Do want to note that Tom's Hardware is not acquiring Anandtech, their parent company Purch is. Hopefully Ryan keeps it what we love about Anandtech.
Sites that rely solely on advertising are really only worth as much as they make from the advertising. In most cases, the staff are worth more than the site itself. Since there's no way to know exactly how much each site makes from their advertising, there's no way to know the real value of a site.
It's probably even less accurate with tech sites as I would argue a larger portion if it's users have adblock installed.
That's why I'm thinking it's profit potential from AD's and hits. I mean I know I'm not employed by you Hilbert, but damn if you were rolling in the dough that much you need to share with your mods!
Ha, yeah I am rich ! Lolz, the forums barely even break even revenue / costs wise. But if anyone wants to offer me $ 2,568,395 USD for the website, please be sure to contact me !!
And the users of tech forums both attract and deter users, depending on how they interact with each other. That feels like a low valuation but I might be a bit biased given how much time I spend logged into this forum....
