i5 3450... any overclockable stuff? -
07-08-2012, 07:40
hi, I just bought a new PC and I have an i5 3450 and I'm very happy, I know that it has the multiplier locked and OC is limited... but...
is there some way to overclock it?? I've never overclocked a CPU... what does really mean "locked multiplier", is it that I can do absolutely nothing related to OC?
and more important, is it safe to try something?

AFAIK, i5 3450 can be overclocked to 3.5 GHz on all cores by increasing multiplier. Go to BIOS and search for Ai Overclock Tuner.

You can't overclock a i5-3450 as it has a locked multiplier.
Under load the chip will turbo to 3.5Ghz from 3.1Ghz if the conditions are right (temp, voltage etc).

Actually, you can overclock it, just can't adjust the multiplier. You can still OC it by adjusting the base clock, but it's pretty limited since you can't really push the base clock very much.

As far as I know H77 chipset does not allow any OC.

I think the H77 chipset allows you to adjust your Bclk, but like I said, it doesn't get you much of an OC

H77 Chipset can overclock but only base clock since you turbo boost one core to 3.5Ghz with the base clock you could also try it just as stock setting but disable turbo boost and don't go to high make sure you have a decent cooler

With the bclk, you might get 1-2mhz, if you're lucky, before the system becomes unstable. Remember, EVERYTHING is tied to the bclk so adjusting it directly affects EVERYTHING.

OC'd to 3.8 on Gigabyte AutoTune -
07-25-2012, 19:33
Just upgraded my PC with a Gigabyte Z77-D3H and i5-3450 CPU. Using AutoTune and nothing else, and the stability testing finished I was at 3.875GHZ, multiplier 37, and bclk 104.7 voltage 1.308.
Wish I could fiqure out how to get a copy of CPU-Z into this post.
Temps maxed out at 63C.

Best that I can tell, the task manager was indicating all 4 cores were at 100% Is there a way I can tell other than task manager ? Also SpeedFan indicated the following temps: core 0=52c, 1=47c, 2=43c, 4=44c.
