Hi, this is my first post in this forum, but I've been reading and gathering info for a while to do a mod on my Fx5700 on my own...

Let me explain the whole process before exposing my problem:

    - First I tried a softmod as proposed by klipi. I was able to unlock the Quadro options, but didn't get the performance and I got lockups in SpecViewperf...
    - I then decided to go for the hardmod, but, to my surprise, the resistors in my GPU were not placed where everyone else said...
They were supposed to be like this:
    . -
    . -
    - .

and then you would just remove the first two resistors. But on my GPU, they were placed like this:
    . -
    . -
    . -

So I first tried removing the first two... no luck. Then I tried to move the third one to the left, but in the process I lost the resistor, so I finally got this:
    . . .
    . . .
    . . .

Anyway, the card did work, so I tried again with NVstrap and drivers 66.81 patched against Forceware and NVstrap protection.

Well, finally I got it to recognise it as a Quadro FX1100, with all pro options available under the OpenGL menu. But now, SpecViewperf 8.1 doesn't show the performance of a Quadro, and it's unable to pass two of the tests... Here are the results:

    Run All Summary

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\3DSMAX\SUMMARY.TXT
    3dsmax-03 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.394

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\CATIA\SUMMARY.TXT
    catia-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 0.00000

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\ENSIGHT\SUMMARY.TXT
    ensight-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.348

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\LIGHT\SUMMARY.TXT

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\MAYA\SUMMARY.TXT

    sw-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 0.00000

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\UGS\SUMMARY.TXT

Can anyone help me find outif I have any chance to get this working? Here's my Graphics subsystem report from RT if that helps...

    Many thanks in advance!

well.....I really don't know how to help. Bottom resistor is (was)really on different place on your card. On my moded 5700 ultra I have that resistor still on original position (left). I had also problems runing specviewperf until I removed those two resistors on top. After that Installed Nvstrap...forced Quadro 1100..etc

Do we need to install forceware protection ( I can not remember)

Im running 67.22 drivers (maybe try this)

    Specviewperf 8.1:

    -3dsmax is around 17
    -Light is around 15

    Thanks for your reply, klipi!

I'll try with those other drivers... By the way, did you patch them with Softquadro as well? You told so in your post about the fx5700 mod, but I've read in other posts that softquadro on 6x.xx & 7x.xx drivers are causing lockups, and that it's not necessary to apply that patch.

Anyway, I'll try different combinations and see how it goes.

    Thanks again.

Ok, I tried 67.22 with just Forceware Antiprotection and NVstrap antiprotection.

SPView 8.1 results almost the same as before, but could run all tests.

Then with 67.22 patched against Forceware, NVstrap, and Softquadro.
Surprisingly, it's also stable, and I get a veeeery slight improvement in SpecView 8.1:

    Run All Summary

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\3DSMAX\SUMMARY.TXT
    3dsmax-03 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.892

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\CATIA\SUMMARY.TXT
    catia-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 3.765

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\ENSIGHT\SUMMARY.TXT
    ensight-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.585

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\LIGHT\SUMMARY.TXT
    light-07 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.875

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\MAYA\SUMMARY.TXT
    maya-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 7.025

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\PROE\SUMMARY.TXT
    proe-03 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.708

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\SW\SUMMARY.TXT
    sw-01 Weighted Geometric Mean = 4.933

    ---------- SUM_RESULTS\UGS\SUMMARY.TXT
    ugs-04 Weighted Geometric Mean = 7.894

But obviously not a Quadro performance.
So, I don't know what to do next... Does anyone know if it's possible to buy one of those tiny resistors to try soldering it again?
    Thanks.

try to find my post on this forum about moding 5700 to quadro.
In following posts someone said that using conducting pen (not soldiering) you can replace those resistors...I don't know what is conducting pen to be honest... just read all posts in that thread......hope you can make it...good luck

also you can compare your dump with mine....you can find it also on this forum....just search with my nick

    Hi bp2005

The report is just fine , you have succeed . But there is something problem about the mobo driver :

    $0000000004 Bus type : AGP revision 3.0
    $0000000005 AGP status : disabled

Reinstall the mobo driver , and see what hapen .

    OK, thanks for those answers...

rui0317, I already noticed that AGP status line, but I've found no way to fix it... even reinstalling mobo drivers. My guess is that it's not the best mobo to do these kind of things, since it is a Mini ITX with an integrated ATI chipset. However, the manuals say it supports AGP 4x and 8x.
I've tried to force AGP sideband adressing and fastwrites in the NVstrap driver, and then reinstalling the nvidia drivers again, but it keeps saying "disabled".

In the BIOS setup, there's no option to enable that, it just lets me choose the preferred video device on startup, which is set to AGP.

Can anyone can guide me further on how to enable the AGP status?

    Thanks again.

However, if I look into the device properties in Windows, it says it's located in PCI slot 3 (PCI BUS 1, device 5, function 0). Is that how it's supposed to be? Or it should be really seeing it's an AGP slot?

Anyway, I've run SpecViewperf 8.1 again, and there's really a huge performance improvement, but I can just judge visually, since I always get a lock-up in the last test, the UGS test, and the machine reboots after that. I'll keep trying with other drivers (currently using 67.22), but any ideas will be more than welcome, since I feel I'm getting sooooo close.

    Thanks for the help!

my device manager also reports that card is in PCI bus 1.

you can run individual specviewperf tests from

    program files\SpeCopc\Specviewperf8.1\
    and start: Run_3dsmax.bat, Run_light.bat, etc.....

good news is that I installed windows xp x64 yesterday and Quadro is fully working without any patch scripts...just using nvstrap driver in RivaTuner 15.7.

one more thing to keep you going :)

oh...and my UGS are around 16 in specviewperf 8.1

Ok, thak you all for all the feedback...

I haven't been able to solve it yet, though. But the weird thing is the following.
Yesterday I got myself another Fx5700 (mine was fx5700LE) from a friend, to see if I could do the hardmod on this one...
Well, luckily, this one had the three resistors placed where all tutorials show they should be, so I just removed the first two and left the third one in its place.

Well, the results are the same I was experiencing with my 5700LE, and Rivatuner shows:
    $0100000001 Hardwired ID : 0347 (ROM strapped to 034e)

just like it did with my 5700LE with all resistors taken out.

So, if I didn't get it wrong, doing the hardmod should give the following line under Rivatuner, isn't it?
    $0100000001 Hardwired ID : 034e (ROM strapped to 034e)

Then, can anyone explain why am I still getting 0347?

    Hope that makes some sense...

    Thanks for your help, guys.

Ok, now I've seen another weird behaviour...
If I reboot my computer, the hardwired ID shown in Rivatuner sometimes changes... Now I'm getting either 0340 or 0347, but still no 034e.

    Any ideas? Thx!
