Default My PSU burnt in smokes...help... - 03-18-2017, 20:35 | posts: 2,443 | Location: PUNE

Hello geeks,

There was a power fluctuation incident which happened in front of my eyes but I tended to overlook it...My goddamned Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 800 W psu was bursting in flames but my comp was on...

I turned it off instantly to avoid any further damages...

Now, I have a cooler master gx 650 watts psu as backup which I have fitted onto my rig...

I just need to know whether that's the right psu for my rig...

I have played a few games successfully, like for eg COD MF and Call of pripyat...

My rig specs are as under...

1. Cpu - Core i5 4690k at default speeds.
2. Asus z87 deluxe mobo...
3. Geforce 960 gtx 2 gb at default...
4. 1 Kingston 240gb ssd and 1 Western Digital Caviar Blu 1 tb hdd at 7200 rpm.
5. 8gbx2=16gigs corsair ram at 1600mhz...
6. 4 120mm fans and 3 80 mm fans...

The psu has 52 amps on a single powerful 12volt rail...

Any inputs are welcomed...

Thanks.

Viren.

650 watts and the specs are fine for your machine, I wouldn't buy a new psu...

52 Amps on single 12V rail: more than twice power than your rig needs, go with it.

Ironic that something branded Cooler Master burst into flames... that is definitely not something that is even remotely acceptable. If you weren't in the room you could have burnt your house down :S

You can keep that 650W, I have similar 650W with 52A and works np with OC'ed 980TI 2x8pin and OC'ed 4.7ghz cpu.

You sure it's not PSU feature to burst into flames to assert dominance?

Ok, enough joking. I am glad it didn't damage your hardware. Your backup PSU should be fine. Maybe you should figure out why your 800W PSU went bad. Could it be unstable home electricity?

Yeah actually there was smoke coming out even though my comp was on. All my parts are safe though...
