Default Twitch streamer dies after 22 hours of gaming - 02-22-2017, 08:24 | posts: 4,652 | Location: UK

I suppose it raises the question of just how much time should you spend gaming without a break? Sitting down for that amount of time can never be good for anyone.

Quote:
Twitch streamer and avid World of Tanks player Brian “PoShYbRiD” Vigneault was found dead Sunday evening. He passed away during a 24-hour charity event, which he was hosting and producing alone from his home in Virginia Beach, Virginia. His profile says he was 34.

Vigneault stepped away from the livestream at 4:30 pm ET, writes PVPLive. Virginia Beach Police told Polygon they were called to Vigneault’s residence a little over an hour later to assist an “unresponsive individual.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vigneault had regularly hosted charity streams on his channel, raising as much as $10,000 for various organizations, according to his Twitch profile page. His community learned of his passing in a Discord chat room. After an absence, his activity light went on. Instead of Vigneault, however, one Redditor says it was a police investigator using his account.

His death is being investigated by the Virginia Beach homicide unit. Police tell Polygon this is standard procedure for any suspicious deaths in that community. “There is no reason at this time to suspect foul play,” the spokesperson said.

Twitch began life as a precursor company called Justin.tv, which streamed many types of user created content before consolidating. The company eventually shifted exclusively to gaming content before it was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for nearly $1 billion. In December 2016, the streaming service unveiled its IRL category, which is intended to “share content captured from [creators’] everyday lives.” That change has greatly increased the type of content creators can share on the platform.

Polygon has reached out to Twitch for comment.

Wargaming.net, publisher of World of Tanks, shared the following statement: “Wargaming is saddened to hear of the loss of streamer and tanker Brian Vigneault, aka ‘PoShYbRiD,’ a devoted player of World of Tanks and contributor to the Make-A-Wish foundation. We offer our most sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

22 hours of nonstop gaming is not healthy, but it wont kill you.

If it does, your health was broken to begin with. And anything could have killed you.
There is absolutely nothing life-threatening in 22 hours of sitting.

Wow he was low energy. I remember some Koreans dying after playing StarCraft continuously for a whole ****ing week lol. Must've taken cocaine or whatever to last that long and it ****ed him up.

Sitting in one place for very long periods of time can cause blood clots in the legs, also called Deep vein thrombosis. People have died on long haul flights because they were sitting in one place for 12 hours or longer.

No. They died because they have been ****ed up to begin with.

Trust me. My gaming tag is Dr. House, and I am a self taught surgeon.

OTOH what can happen during long flights is...

being forced to stay in one place can cause all kinds of negative psycho-physical reactions, panic, anxiety, high blood pressure/heart rate etc which can exacerbate any pre-existing condition.

As i understand, he was a heavy drinker and a chain smoker. Also before his death he did several days of 18-20+ hours gaming marathons before the 24 hours stream. My guess his heart could not take it and gave up.

I too don't think that sitting he died because of a long streaming session. What killed him was an unhealthy life to begin with, as he was a drinker, smoker, and had long hours of not doing anything phsyical is what killed him, not a twitch stream. If most of us would do such a stream right now it'd be tough, but hardly anyone would die because of that. Do it for years and the story might have a different end.

Pretty much. Something must've been "lingering" and the lack of sleep was just the final nail.

Probably. Its not like he was 100% healthy and gaming "killed him".

Even i had 18h straight gaming sessions.

Again like the AMD/Nvida thing, other factors would have played heavily in this, hell if this were down solely to sitting about at computers and console for large lengths of time then 3dguru would have shut down years ago due to all it's members dropping dead onto thier keybo#PIpi;okp09iop#PPPPPPPPOouuohuo9ihou9ihou9huo 9ihuoihuo9ihuo9ihuo

Also those gamers who die from gaming 48-72hrs or more straight have no good food of any kind just junk food and either Pop/soda or even energy drinks.

Also it wasn't just gaming that killed this particular individual he was smoking and drinking alcohol as well over several days of 20+ hrs.

yeah find it hard to believe too that sitting for 22 hours will give you trouble, only if you had trouble to begin with, everybody with a deskjob or sits and studies long should work out regularly, I sit around 10 hours + for days and don't mind since I hit the gym 3 days a week.
