Default Question Regarding External GPU Docks - 09-29-2016, 16:32 | posts: 11

I am considering selling my desktop and buying a laptop with external graphics compatibility. I am just curious how future proof those are though. I tried searching simple benchmarks like GTX 1080 desktop VS GTX 1080 in a GPU dock but idk if there was any since the 1080 is still pretty new. Specifically was searching the 1080 because its the newest best card and would receive the biggest bottleneck (if any) for being the fastest. So the question is -

With Volta or whatever new Nvidia/AMD tech that comes out in 2017/2018, will the GPU docks be obsolete due to TB3/AGA due to PCIE4x bottlenecking newer faster cards?
