If you have a really beefy CPU and at least 1.5gig of ram, playback isn't an issue for most 720p content. The 1080i and 1080p stuff is much more system intensive.
If anyone is interested in this stuff, I highly recommend, Step Into Liquid, a DVD that comes with 2 discs, one a normal version, and one a WMV version that is absolutely amazing. T2 Extreme is another dual disc version, and has a verison of T2 mastered in 1080progressive. It is amazing obviously as well.
The WMV version of T2 will not play outside the US, unless anyone knows a work around. Tried hard to get it going in the UK, changed all settings to US but the ip address probably gave the game away and I could not get a licence!

I imported that disc set years ago and tried for ages to get it to work. Never did though. Collected dust in the end.
There might be a way to do it with proxies. But I think once it has been put in your system, and it installed some stuff. You might have to get rid of that, and the cookies it leaves lying around, before trying it again over a proxy server.

I recommend just looking up the HD DVD or Blu-Ray versions on bit-torrent if the proxy route doesn't work... they screwed you over screw them over right back. Plus the those newer versions have years of advances in the VC-1 (WMVHD) codec that probably improve the picture.

Bastards might want to protect the film from being put on the internet (prftt! as if) but locking out people in other regions who LEGALLY imported and paid for your product is down right illegal.

Sons of bitches...

http://stage6.divx.com

It appears I'm responding to a seriously old post, but yes, I've got an account with hd-bits.ro and it's the best I've found for HD movies. It's a bit hard to get an account. You need to fill out an application (there's a link to it on their homepage). If you expect to have your application accepted, prepare to do a bit of work. You'll need to be fairly seasoned in the private torrent community, because they'll want to see those accounts. If you've got good ratios, you should be fine.
