GTX660 or GTX670?

Hey guys,

Soon i am going to get a new pc, i already have my whole system except my gfx card. I am in doubt i now have two 4870 in CrossfireX. But now i am more interested in Nvidia again. Now my issue is that i don't know which one to choose and what the differences are between these two cards.

Hopefully you guys can give me some advise what to do.

I advise you to go for a GTX 670.The difference between the two is obviously performance don't know the technical specs but try to look for some benchmarks.Right now if i was to buy a gpu i wouldn't go with anything less than the GTX 670 + the performance on this card is about the same as the GTX 680 Nvidia's current high end card (excluding the GTX 690).

GTX 660 Ti has 192-bit memory bus instead of 670's 256-bit, which means 25% lower memory bandwidth. This translates into about 15% performance difference @ 1920x resolutions. Basically, GTX 670 is 15% faster and 33% more expensive.

I was in the same "spot" as you, but enough of that I had my time in the "sun", see what I did there? Moving on...

The 660ti(if u get a factory OC model) is basicly the same performance as the 670. I got the 660ti with a quiet cooling solution over the 5-10fps increase of frames.

670 should peform better when Overclocked aswell, ofcourse but the cheapest 670 I found with a decent cooler/fan was about 100euro more then the 660ti with same fan(gigabyte windforce thingy).


So it came down to 250euro for a 660ti with borderlands2 and a good fan/quiet VS a 330euro 670 without borderlands2 and a fan I would have to replace anyway cause I hate noise comming from my rig. Main reason I sticked with my 460 for so long is that the fan is as quiet idle as it is after hours of gaming.

again the OC editions is basicly as fast as a 670 card and it can still be overclocked further.

I would save that 100euro and get another 660ti down the line instead.

I choose GTX660Ti factory OC with Borderlands 2 and good (and quiet) cooling system.

Edit: & My score in 3Dmark11 is 8550 in performance default preset.

When getting a 670 look for one that uses a 680 PCB as these tend to be better overclockers. I know the EVGA 670 FTW is one and I think the MSI 670 windfoce x3 is one aswell. From my experience, my FTW has no problem hitting 1300 on core at boost and 7108 mem resulting in a 3Dmark11 p score of 10084.

Thx for the replies, but i have another question. The bitrate of the 660 is 192 and the bitrate from the 670 is 256. But with the OC version just what Lukas said has the same speeds, actually a little faster. So what is it with the bit rate?

256bit memory bus will transfer more data to/from memory per second than 192bit memory can. At higher resolutions the 192bit memory bus can hamper performance in instances of high detail or lots of AA due to the extra graphics data having to be transfered to/from memory.

GTX660Ti looks to be a great card, but if you want all the "eye candy" at 1080 or higher, the GTX670 is the better option.

Oke oke, so it's better that i go for the 670, because I play on 1080p resolution. Or doesn't it matter that much, like 5 frames more or so? or is it a big difference?

A 660ti will be much faster than 4870 CF the 660ti was tuned to perform for 180O monitors. If you are doing surround of HD+ gaming get a 670/680 or Radeon card cause they are faster at higher resolutions. The 192bit bus does not hurt the performance of the 660ti at all.

Hmm, i hear a lot of differences between people. The ones says "get the 670"and the other one says "get the 660, because it doesn't matter at all" HELP MEEE hahaha
