haswell cpu performance......??

I know haswell will have better integrated graphics than my 2700k but how much
cpu performance increase will we see possibly????

Not sure, But since this chip will be a new socket im going to skip ivy bridge and wait for haswell for my next upgrade.

Id expect to see a 50% increase in performance over sandy bridge as per mores law

Chances are the performance gain isn't going to be that big...Intel has no reason at this time to put out products vastly superior to their previous gen since AMD has basically thrown in the towel.

Agreed. At least they will have all SATA3 ports (supposedly). Intel has no excuse on the Z77 other than to encourage people to upgrade to Haswell. AMD can do it on their APU based boards, no reason for Intel to have only 2 SATA3 ports!

Graphic performance will be better, but it certainly still won't make it a gaming CPU.

I'm sure you can show me the technical reasons why there is no reason for Intel not to have all SATA3 ports.

In all seriousness, Anandtech was talking about over a 150% performance increase GPU wise with Haswell.

Typically a new intel architecture gives between 15 and 25% increase in core performance over the previous generation clock-for-clock. Nehalem was about 15% faster than Core, Sandy was about 20% faster than Nehalem. Die shrinks maybe add another 2-5% through optimisations etc.

GFX performace will likely improve far more. Intel are on about whacking an L4 cache in IIRC to act like a buffer between CPU and iGPU. This could be up to 64 MB.

Haswell is a tock and a new arch. Tocks typcially have better performance gains than ticks (which are just die shrinks of the previous arch). The performance of Haswell will likely be more impressive than that of Ivy Bridge (which was a tick). As to how much better is anyones guess at this point in time, but the IGP gain is expected to be dramatic relative to previous gen.

Also one of the new things about Haswell is the integration of the voltage regulator on the CPU die. If that brings any tangible improvements, it will be in power use, not performance. With Ivy Bridge, performance per watt and iGPU performance were more important than IPC improvements. That's unlikely the change with Haswell for three reasons:
- increasing popularity of all sorts of mobile devices
- lack of real performance competition from AMD
- saturation of CPU performance needs for the mainstream consumer on desktops; this has to do with the gaming industry's retardation due to consoles

edit: I'd expect Skylake to bring bigger architectural performance improvements in response to next-gen consoles and the increasing availability and lower cost of 2560 wide displays / multimonitor gaming.

Actually Moore's Law just says that chip transistor count doubles every two years..

Another Intel executive David House boasted that Intel CPU performance would "double every 18 months" which just turned out to be an exaggeration.

Moore's Law as an observation has remained remarkably accurate, though.
