Found out after the fact that Samsung doesn't support the Marvell SATA controller.
Would I see any remarkable performance gains by using a PCI-Express 2.0 x1 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) RAID Controller Card?
Or it is what it is.

    A few benchmarks:

You should REALLY try another storage chip.
    I have a 840 EVO 120GB.

These are done with the Intel Z77 AHCI Chipset. There is a big difference.

Maybe someone else can recommend you a good PCI-E Card.

The Marvell controller sucks....always has and likely always will.

Of course, it's not Samsung's job to support Marvell's SATA controller. It's Marvell's job to support their own SATA controller.

And that is why last year, I just said screw it, and upgraded after 4 years and got myself a Z87 Deluxe motherboard with native Intel Sata III(6GB) paired with a couple of extra ASMEDIA SATA III(6GB) controller's for extra drives, knowing that the Marvel controller card I had was pure junk for the Crucial C300 128 SSD that I still have in use in my machine.

Marvell controllers are junk, period. The drive itself makes no difference.

I honestly don't know why Marvell ever got in to the controller business in the first place and why some companies still buy Marvell's products knowing that Marvell's controllers are junk.

I dont think you have over provisioning on. set it to 10% of your drive and rerun the benches.
also enable rapid mode and reboot your pc

Shouldn't need over provisioning turned on to get proper drive performance....just a proper controller.

I get improved performance in benches with it set at 10% vs not on. though I have 232gb on my ssd used up. rapid mode shows a tremendous increase with it turned on vs disabled. too bad you can use it for just 1 ssd though

OVP won't affect his speed since there's only 80GB on the drive. It's practically empty.

Rapid Mode doesn't play nice with BF4
Had it on turned it off.

Because when I had it turned on, when trying to join a server I kept going into small window mode.
I turned it off and all is well.

It was the Marvell controller. Enabled RAPID with the Syba Controller Card and it's all good.

    Quite a difference.
