I have the correct 9500 non pro pcb board and have tried the original hack to make my card a 9700. The problem was I would get artifacts in the nature scenes on water, and in battlefield on the water. So i gave up...then came the 9500 pro hack which allows me to run on only 4 pipelines. I still get the same problems though. Could it be that my problem lays outside of the pipelines, and that something being changed elsewhere is causing problems for my card?

Thats alright, sometimes i don't understand you either :p. Wizzard has a patch out that allows the 9500 non pro to be turned into a 9500 pro in case the softmod to a 9700 fails. Anyway, I got it to work, the drivers weren't getting installed properly. This thread can therefore be closed.

Mate, you just make full mess from RADEON models. 9500pro is 9500+4 additional pixel pipelines so "Wizzard has a patch out that allows the 9500 non pro to be turned into a 9500 pro in case the softmod to a 9700 fails" phrase has no sence at all. Probably you meant R9800 models with DID 4148 and 4 pixel pipelines, modding R9500->R9500PRO without unlocking pixel pipelines is absolute insane.

    my situation

i actually tried wizzard's 9500np->9800 mod for the artifacting boards and must be fortunate... i have a sapphire red pcb with the l-shaped layout and notice a dramatic improvement in performance... i have a pIII 850 256mb pc133 ram on a i815 mobo... maybe thats why it seems like a dramatic improvement... i dont ever mess with synthetic benchmarks but used to run morrowind in 640x480 no AA or AF and now can run it at 1280x960 2AA and 4AF at a noticeably higherframe rate--- havent even tried a higher resolution! :D

much respect to wizzard and everyone for saving me some cash, now i can run higher resolution, aa and af, and less choppy ...
