i see.. i have a MSI afterburner but why i have it is just to monitor temperature hahahahaha... coz they all say that higher temp could damage or decrease the lifespan of your hardware. also my temps are 67C while playing is that normal? (im looking at CPU temperature from MSI afterburner not the Core temperature)
Temps are fine Yea high temps are the main lifespan reducers Guide to OCing? Just raise the Core clock say +50MHz, run some games for a while, if stable (No crashing) raise it a little more (Say +10MHz each step), keep going until you get a crash, then raise the vCore a little until it's stable again Keep doing that until no matter what, you can not stablise that OC, then drop it down about 10-15Mhz and save to a profile Then reset everything to stock again, and start raising the Memory (Don't use the vCore this time) test until it crashes or you see corruption, then drop it down to the last stable level Now you have an idea of the max OC clocks your card can handle, set them both to the stable levels and play some games again, if all is stable, you have your max OC, if not drop them down a few MHz until they are stable You might need to reboot after a crash
gosh hahaha... guess i have to ask my brother regarding that.. i dont even know that core clock so how could raise it. hahaha.. anyway thanks a lot i've learned so much from you guys.. you are all great.. thanks.. base on what you guys told me, what i need to do is: 1) buy another ram make it 2 stick. 2) 970 is good at 1080p so no changes on that. 3) learn how to overclock.
hmmm i think that's why my brother told me to click that lock icon on msi burner so that i couldn't make any changes on those things.
The lock icon just stops you altering saved profiles, you can still OC Don't be scared of trying it, just make sure you don't set it to load at startup, so when it crashes, if you need to reboot, it will reset the clocks back to stock for you
Just to clarify.. MSI Afterburner is for overclocking your graphics card (and very easy..google 'overclock gtx 970' and watch on youtube/read threads OR see the review Hilbert has here on Guru3d, there is also a short and to the point explanation i believe. I'm sure there's also some pictures/help in the gtx970 thread here on the forum. I was talking about your CPU overclock though, but ask your brother how he feels about it
gosh i dont know that hahaha... okay ill check that later.. thanks a lot.. im really scared on those kind of things coz i dont know much about overclocking.
yes, base on what i've heard cpu overclocking is much complicated than GPU right?.. and when you overclock, it produce more heat like extraordinary says right?.. when i play the GPU temp reach 75C and if i overclock it, it will exceed that temp and im too scared when that happens hahaha
Yes, as Extraordinary said, overclocking produces more heat. So for your GPU, IF you overclock it, you most likely also need to apply a steeper fan curve to keep temps in check..although 75c is not too bad, could be due to poor case ventilation also (or you live in a warm climate). Also, if you don't mind less fps, then setting vsync or locked framerate to f.ex 60 or whatever your monitor refresh is, that will alleviate some heat problems (but then, if you do that..you might not need the overclock). Stuff like Tesselation/AA/supersampling/DSR also puts more strain on card NOTE: if you play witcher 3, be aware that it is VERY demanding on your GPU, especially if you have Hairworks ON (i'm betting that most people with single gtx980 or below have that turned OFF or on GERALT ONLY As for cpu, it is a little more complicated, but not much. But you DO have to fiddle with a few bios settings...hence the: ask your brother
witcher 3 and gta 5 are demanding titles, you wont manage 60 fps with nvidia hairworks but i tried and still got around 45 fps at stock, havnt tried with my oced card. and gta 5 just leave advanced off and turn down the grass from ultra to very high, it is a known issue for it to kill the framerate. i also agree with the 1 stick of ram, always go duel channel...
