For years i have been using fraps, thought fraps was the best recording software since slice bread :3eyes:
But anyways, just tested out MSI afterburner recording program and its a freaking 10/10, recording fullscreen 1280x720, no lag or anything. Just a beautiful program :)
Bye bye fraps, you have been good to me.

I will post a video later.

actually i was too quick to make a decision. i was recording at half screen the whole time and didn't notice that lol, recording at anything else, fullscreen well its horrible.
Just stick with fraps, its really the best recording software ever.

People tending to jump into 100% opposite conclusions (freaking 10/10 -> horrible and vice versa) normally need to learn configuring their systems proroperly. PEBCAK.

I get same quality with DXTory, but an hours worth of recording at a fraction of size, which is important if your uploading said file, day in and out ;)

2Gb per hour, instead of 20Gb+, yup

That's because your CPU architecture is so old it can't handle on the fly encoding and playing a game at the same time. Fraps might not use as much CPU because it's dumping it RAW, which means much bigger file sizes, to your hard drives. There, your HD speeds become the bottleneck. You need to test recording at 30fps and lessening the compression to get it right for your slower CPU.

In my opinion afterburner is miles ahead of fraps. I can record with ZERO fps drop in game, almost gamelike video quality and 75% lower filesize than fraps.
I use 100% quality, full frame and 60 fps, everything else unchecked/auto. Video format VFW x264vfw (separate downloaded codec) with ratefactor set to 20.

The only problem I got is that Sony movie studio cannot handle those files, so I have to take them through Avidemux or Handbrake first if I want to make a movie of the videos.

Who even cares about that when one has to actually 'convert' it to actually share it.

I'd rather spend 2 mins converting, than 2 hours extra uploading a large file size ;)

    DXTory has AVIMux built in:

MAX 30fps is all one needs for recording:

x264vfw codec and set your res/scaling.

CRF of 18 and zero latency ensures great quality, very small file size, and no lag in game :) This gives roughly an hours worth at a MAX size of 2Gb.

Fraps gives me the same, but sizes of 20Gb+ for same quality, along with laggy performance.

    No-brainer really. :)

People who have limited disc space should first try to solve that particular issue instead of trying to record gameplay videos. lol

scaramoanga, yeah. When I will build a dual xeon based PC, I will turn on real time compression.

    ha.

Can I ask kids with "BAHAHAHAAA!" and "foreva" posting style to leave this forum subsection and troll outside? There will be no more warnings. This place is for AB users.

Same problem here and I searched a lot for a solution. As an FYI Unwinder gave a good explanation about this.

I'm using RTV1 now and I'm satisfied with the performance and quality since the improvements in 2.3.0. I do like to tinker though and may try x264vfw with Avidemux and / or Handbrake for kicks since you mentioned them.
