I guess this is as good a place as any for this question.... I remember in 1999 there was a big article in one of the tech mags about how we'd soon see desktop monitors replaced with big "glasses" that were actually a monitor built into a Ski-Goggle form factor, and, obviously, worn on the head. They were going to be "regular" SVGA, I think, and the prototype in the article was made by Hitachi. It would create the visual effect of having a 52" monitor! It was thought that such ski-goggle monitors would cost around $1,200. It was also thought that this goggle would be fit into a sort of helmet that had incredibly good speakers, too. Then, after that...NOTHING. Still sounds like a wonderful idea to me. A conspiracy by the industry to keep us buying what's available?
