And i've got nearly as much hours in L4D2, so I think my own experiences speak for themselves. I used the SSAO for L4D2 from 2011 onward.

Every other game I used old driver SSAO with had just as many issues of their own in addition to massive performance hits.

Well I used it since it was first introduced, and yeah initial SSAO was the best even if it was a bit perf. intense, but back then there were kinda weak gpus too..

Anyway nv needs to stop optimizing it and finally start fixing what they broke in the first place.

I just bought MKX yesterday. I have installed it and played it already, but decided to reinstall it all since some issues come from the streaming-install it has.

I'll give the flag a test once it's all done installing.

    Update regarding Mortal Kombat X

I tested out the official flag. I didn't really do anything of bleeding testing, but I just did an overall test whether it works and if it gave any heavy performance hit regarding playing. I have noticed not any significant performance difference as the game still needs fixing regarding optimization. For the stage used in the testing, I seen no noticeable performance drop. Some stages may have more things to project AO on so performance varies on the stages. I used Quality AO settings in NVInspector at the time.

So I tested in 4 different ways. No AO, Ingame AO, HBAO+, & HBAO+ + Ingame AO.

    No AO:

    HBAO+:

    Ingame AO:

    Ingame AO + HBAO+:

As it's visible, the official HBAO+ flag provides a more subtle AO whilst the ingame AO is more darker. IMO, Darker fits the games' style of art so I recommend the combination of both as HBAO+ provides more detail/precision in the image whereas the ingame AO does not provide that much detail/precision.

    The 2 part suggests DX1x.

However did I miss this post, or is it needing to be further tested?

HBAO+ is far better than the game's AO

We already know the current HBAO+ algorithm dominates as in performance and precision...

    @Inkscape
Thanks for the shots, I was on the fence about the in game SSAO. HBAO+ and a mild reshade tweak make a big difference on the visuals.

Portal 1 isn't listed in OP. :( What are the best flags to try?

I just meant that the flags in the profiles created by nVidia before the HBAO+ switch were basically useless as they're not reliable at all now.

Anyway, you guys were right, the SSAO with the 327 driver was pretty awful, but I played through AC1 with it anyway. :p

Other flags used with Src engine games are a good starting point.

I tried this flag: 0x00000010 with GTA V it seems to work. :D

Provide some screenshots with it and your in-game settings?

    Hehe, no it doesn't.
This flag is DX9 only, while GTA 5 runs in DX10+.

I've updated the post and added a few screenshots. Due to a picture limitation I had to move some entries into a new post:
