    Thanks for the reply.

I am quite familiar with the ISO, aperture, shutter speed triangle relationship.

That makes since about EV... I was wondering what that was changing to change the exposure.

So I'm assuming changing EV under aperture priority changes shutter speed, and changing the EV under shutter priority mode changes aperture?

That seems completely worthless and the point of Manual mode. If I had known all that did was change the shutter, I would have just done it myself via manual mode.

I keep the ISO the same for all pictures in an HDR photograph.

It makes sense you say to leave aperture and ISO and only change shutter speed. After all, you're most likely doing still HDR photos, so changing the shutter would be the best bet to getting more or less exposure.

I also agree about the software. When I did my first few HDR photos, it was evident that most of the typical HDR effects are present there... I suppose that's only logical though since you have to use software to combine all the images. But even then, you need to really play with settings to get that exaggerated/surreal effect.

I am currently in a lab with no headphones, so I will check that video out later. Thanks again.

As for software, what do you prefer? I tried Photoshop and Photomatix. I think they both did a desirable job, but Photomatix is definitely more HDR focused. Because I already have Photoshop, I will probably just stick with it until I get more into details/better taking HDR photos.

I think taking the pictures are half the battle really. The software makes them pop.

if you are trying to get multiple exposures for HDR it's best to do it in manaul mode

the problem with any of the auto modes like aperture or shutter priority is that you are letting the camera work out the exposure for you, which pending on metering settings and how the camera interprets the scene you can get shots exposed all over the place eg even if you apply EV -1 it may not truly be -1 compared to the original shot because the camera decided to expose the scene differently compared to when you first press the shutter

the best way to do it is to take one shot, identify the areas in the image that's underexposed or blown out due to the contrasty lighting and then expose for those areas missing in the original picture

So, how do people usually do their HDR?

    - on the computer?
    - as an effect on the camera (single shot but apply a filter)
    - actually having the camera take several pictures of different settings in very quick succession automatically and blend the frames on the camera?

I've done HDR before and I only did it one way, bracket exposure -1/0/+1 and photoshop it together. Wasn't really pleased with the results, HDR always looks unnatural, unless it's really subtle, but then you might just expose the photo well instead and tweak the curves in photoshop.

The HDR on the 'High Sierra Sunset' looked like it worked out much better than the Yosemite pic.

Shot in a town called Conflons, France. 3 image HDR B&W.

Also B&W HDR, shot in an unfinnished hotel in France that started building pre-WW2.

Only SW work was the HDR photo merge and B&W conversion.

Nothing to do with HDR - just what a man has to do sometimes with a shovel.
