Yes a 550W should be enough.

Is this going to be a HTPC? Kinda weird RAM choice.

Home media center, used for watching/streaming movies.

If you want it for that purpose I don't really get the 2400mhz RAM. Literally anything 1600mhz will do at a lower pricepoint.

Hi CalculuS it is just one I am making up for my granddaughter something that can be upgraded if and when I want, as for the ram I might swap it with my 1600 yet and the PSU I have a Corsair 750 but when I tried it in the case there were to many spare cables to find homes for so I thought of getting a semi modular to help with the airflow as long as you are sure 550w is okay, my system is

NZXT Phantom 410 Black Orange Special Edition
    Intel Core i7 4790K, S1150, Haswell, 4 Core 4.4GHz Turbo
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT Socket 1150 VGA DVI HDMI DisplayPort 8
    Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
    16GB (2x8GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance
    Crucial MX100 512GB SATA 6Gbps SSD
    Corsair RM1000 PSU
Coolermaster Hyper T4 Intel and Amd Socket Heatpipe Cooling Fan
    Liteon DVD Writer
Asus PB278QR 27" Professional LED Multimedia Monitor - Black, 2560x1440
    5.1 Creative Surround Speakers
ROCCAT Isku FX Multicolour Illuminated Gaming Keyboard
    Logitech MX516 Gaming Mouse
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
    Epson XP-405

I was wondering about switching her ram with mine and as she is just coming up for 5 years old I don't think she will notice I can always at another 8gb to mine.

    Hi cookiebun,
If you are avoiding clutter in the system, then yes, semi-modular PSU would be ideal. And if you wanted to make sure if a 5550w PSU will power this spec below, then the answer is also yes.. more than enough as a matter of fact :)

Intel's stock coolers are pretty good if you dont plan to overclock the computer. I dont know about the much about the psu but gold+ rating and good reviews sounds like you made a pretty safe bet in deciding which one to get.

cookiebun, you can easily estimate the power consumption yourself as well. For the current configuration, 550W will be enough. In future if you intend to add anything, just make a rough estimate sort of calculation based on the modules in your system that consume a lot of power. For example, if you change your processor, RAM or SATA drive, each has a different power consumption, add and subtract and you’ll be good to go.

Bump on the above comments; the 550 semi modular would be more than enough to power that system.

Note on a choice of components though; I agree with calculus and his comment on the ram. I think at the overall price point I would roll with a cheaper ram choice and upgrade the video card a notch or so.

That being said, if the PC will be used mostly got work and very little game application, upgrading the video card is meh.

    Good luck with the build!
