MSI R9-290X Lightning vs Palit GeForce GTX 780 Ti (4K)

Hello all.

Buying my new GPU this week after selling my GTX 770.I have the choice between either of these two cards for my new Samsung 4K monitor.

Which would be the better choice between the two? The 290X is unfortunately more expensive than the 780ti, possibly due to miners, and the card itself looks gigantic.

Heard great things about the Palit 780ti but I'm unsure if the 3GB RAM limitation is going to be a problem or not or if either cards would fit in my case.

Intel Core i7 4770 3.40Ghz
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Motherboard
HyperX 8 GB 1600mhz
Corsair CX750W PSU (Will also upgrade if necessary)
500GB HDD
Samsung EVO 12GB SSD
Corsair Carbide SPEC 03 Case

For 4k one card is not enough unfortunately if you want max details. That being said i'd still recommend a 780 ti even though it has less vram than the 290x.

But the wisest choice would be to buy 2 780 6gb.

 

Most gaming I'll be doing at 2560x1440 and some games in 4K without AA. But not expecting to max out games like Crysis 3 etc. Although, a single 780ti can run Metro Last Light very well at playable frame rate at 4K.

I'll be using video editing software and my recently purchased, Unreal Engine 4 subscription.

 

My choice will be 2 x 290x OC from power color at 449.99$ each !

The GTX780 TI to expensive and 3g of vram not sufficient.
