hey guys, this is for my parents pc its an oldie, amd 3400+, 7600gt, 2gigs ram, win 7 they just got a 42" plasma, they love watching movies from netflix, i was wondering if the current gpu will be enough or do i need an upgrade...if so wat should i be looking for? i'd like to stick with nvidia, don't care for gaming, just for watching videos from the pc on that tv. thanks. here's the tv http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-PN42C...ack/dp/B0036WT3UW?t=slickdeals&tag=slickdeals
It depends on the res of the films and codec used (I dont know netflix). The CPU isnt good enough to decode 1080p and the AGP 7600GT doesnt support all HD formats for hardware decoding. However, the TV is 720p so if your parents dont make the mistake of downloading higher res video than 720p, it should play back ok. btw, if the motherboard is AGP, you might struggle to find a replacement video card. Best thing to do is see how you get on with the videos they watch.
its a pci express slot... 720s good enough, they wont care too much tbh, as long as the playbacks smooth, they're coming from a 24" tube so this is like ...cant even explain it. wat formats does this pci 7600gt support?
Its a first generation HD decoding video card so it will support a few codecs in hardware. This will help you understand some of its capabilities . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_PureVideo However, the CPU should decode 720p without a problem, no need to use the gfx card to do the decoding. Give it a try and see how it performs.
so if i plug it in the a hdmi to vga(or dvi) i think do i need to install anything? core avc or k-lite codec? or just install and open online videos or with vlc?
ffdshow should do the trick with Media Player Classic. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffdshow http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ VLC may work ok but I found it needs a bit more CPU sometimes so am not sure how it will perform on your CPU.
i'll give these a shot, do i have to do anything with the res, or keep it maxed out? any custom res settings? or leave it at default.
Double click the playing video to make it go full screen. You can customise the ass off both, you dont need to though.
