Intel Management Engine Interface Wont Start?!?

Updated this driver as I spotted it was old.

Uninstalled old one, rebooted, device manager shows the same old exclamation mark next to the "Unknown Device".

I download the latest version from Intel.

Install and during install I get this error message...



I click "OK" and the install finishes. I check and its installed properly.

I go to device manager and everything is fine, device has no errors and driver are installed correctly.

I go to services and see if its working. Nope, the service is stopped. I try to start the service and I get this message...



Anyone got any ideas?

 

Disable device. Delete the service. Why ever bother with MEI?

 

It supposedly does something on home desktops, but I doubt it.

 

If I don't install it I get an "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.

So it must do something, right?

 

delete whole IME software and use only its driver - update it through device manager.

I had a little older before 9.5.24.1790 WHQL, it was always combined until now - this 10.0.1.1000 is separate too

 

That's what you would think, but I don't think anyone has ever found out what that is on a home PC. In a network environment it's used to boot PC's remotely and update firmware/drivers and stuff like that.

I agree, and I'm not saying you shouldn't install it or anything. But I wish Intel was a bit more specific about what functionality is actually affected.

 

Windows has no drivers for that device (hence 'Unknown device'). And that fact says for itself. Windows has drivers for a most demanded devices. MEI is for a big company offices. And even with installed drivers a device must be used to do something. That MEI device without special software just sits there.

The Intel Management Engine Interface driver is required when flash updating the BIOS in Windows on some computers that use MEI. I couldn't update the bios on my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop computer without the Intel MEI driver installed. the Dell bios update program needed to use Intel MEI to properly update the BIOS.

 

Use the version from your motherboard manufacturer's website and be done with it. Updating something such as this (a service that isn't performance related), to the absolute latest version available is pointless. If you where looking at updating something like intel RST, then maybe there would be a point to it.
