So, in my son's PC, I swapped out the (low profile) radeon 6570 1GB with a radeon 5770 1GB I got off of craigslist last night. It's a pretty good card and it crushes the 6570 (no surprise). When I run 3DM2013, it gets through the first two benchmark sets, loads firestrike to about 95% and then the 3DM app minimizes. It can't seem to run firestrike. At first I thought the PC was short on ram (it only has 2GB + an E5200) but with the the 6570 it could get through all these benchmarks, including firestrike which it scored something like 765. Running the same video driver for both cards (13-9) on win7 x64. Nothing has changed but the video card. Any idea why the 5770 doesn't like Firestrike?
Using driver 13-9 from December. The 5770 works great (stable) on everything else: all other benchmarks (Vantage, 3DM03, etc), Battlefield 4, Skyrim, Just Cause 2, GTA4, Supreme Commander 2, etc. It just won't start Firestrike. It's no big deal as it works great but my son (9) likes these benchmarks and he'd get a kick out of seeing how much better his gaming rig is than last time he ran it. :nerd: I'll see if there's a newer driver and try that.
I was thinking you might want to roll back the driver to something like 12.11, might come out more stable for an older series like the 5770.
Did you remove the old drivers before installing the new ones for the 5770 ? Run DDU in safemode to remove the old ones http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/ Reinstall new drivers after reboot into normal mode 13.12 WHQL is the latest official driver that supports the 5xxx series cards http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx
I just grabbed the 13.12 driver a moment ago. Last night I didn't uninstall it but just re-installed 13.9. (I know better) I also have some 12.xx drivers floating around if I still can't make it work with 13.xx. Trying it now. I wish it weren't all the way through the benchmark that it crashes. Takes 10 minutes to even know if it had any effect. lol
Works now. Either a fresh driver install or different driver seems to have done it. Thanks all. I threw a quick overclock on his e5200 (now at 3.0ghz instead of 2.5) and with that hd5770, his office PC turned gamer scored: 1774 - 5921 - 50,546. Nothing special but good enough and he's not far behind my 5 year old, outdated gaming rig. A rig so old it's incapable of running Fire Strike (dx10 card)
