Hey, I'm interested in building my own laptop, but I have no idea what exactly to look for. If anyone knows some good places to buy parts from, how to do it, or what I need to look for please help out. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm not sure if you can build a notebook computer yourself but a few stores can custom-build a notebook computer for you. One store is Puget Computer Systems at this link:

    http://www.pugetsystems.com

I had a notebook computer custom-built by them two months ago but the hard disk drive started having problems this month. I have to call them tomorrow to have the problem fixed.

OK the companies that you should look into are

    www.powernotebooks.com
    www.sagernotebooks.com

Any ASUS laptop that meets your needs.

Also there are 5 manufacturers of Laptops in the whole world.
they are ASUStek, Quanta, Clevo, Compal......forgot the other one.

Even though there are a lot of barebones out there, not many places will resell them as barebones..they are really made for the reseller to customize.

Really the 'build' part takes literally like 15min so it's not even all that exciting..but you can still choose your own cpu and hard drive.

There are more then five but the big 5 make like 80-90% of all laptops. The other one you're missing is ECS.

I think that MSI makes barebone notebook computers. I have a MSI 1057.

in a way, you can "build" a notebook on apple mac site :) well you can customise on how much RAM you want+what CPU/HDD/Screen/accessories.

I am sure you could upgrade a cheap model off of used parts. But it wont be the best for sure.

Under the subject of building your own,

Does this barebones have an Intel socket 945 processor or have I read it wrong? because then this processor will be compatable. -sometimes it's just so mind boggleing-

The processor you listed is a Pentium D which is incompatible.

The processors that you are looking for on that notebook are Core Duo and Core 2 Duo Mobile both codenamed Yonah (core duo) and Merom (core 2 duo mobile) respectively

    *Oops*
But don't the Core Duo's have different sockets? and the mobile and desktop CPUs are they not different? Like what socket should I be looking for?

Mobile C2D and dekstop C2D are completely different sockets that are incompatible physically. The best CPU for a mobile platform would be either Core Duo or Core 2 Duo Mobile.

What exactly are you looking for in a price ratio?

Well, probably about 1.4Ghz for a C.Duo and price about £90 (that is if you can get for that price).

Ok, I think I have found one that is compatable "link here" but is says the CPU Model is T1300, and the barebones reccomends Yonah:1.66GHz(T2300)-2.16GHz(T2600) Can anyone help??

I'm planing to build my own custom too but in my country, there is no company that allows me to do that. So I decided to go to the computer junk yard and buy old notebooks eg athlon xp and stuff. And I try to figure things out there. It is so much more complicated that a normal PC.

    Also, it gets f**king hot.
