Hey there, I got a chance to buy a Sapphire Tri-X Radeon R9 290. Thing is, i'm not sleeping on a money (Still using geforce gt 440 which I bought quite some years ago) so it's used, to be more specific it's really cheap because it's broken. As the owner says-he had this card for less than 2 years but he recently broke 2 capacitors which he marked on this picture I know it's pretty risky, not many dare to fix and use broken graphic cards but what's your opinion on it? Is it worth risking? Any suggestions on the price? Can I get anywhere schematics to check what capacitors were there?
Leap of faith should remain in Assassin's Creed. Don't do it. You've got to man up and start saving money on a new video card.
Ain't worth it, since the rest of your rig won't handle the card anyways. Save some money and build a new rig in 6-8 months time from now. You can always play games, and you will be able to buy the ones that come out now for less by that time.
leave it bro..you can find another use item or grab new one.. more agree if you save money for next build
Short answer: No! Why: One important thing others have missed to see here. It's not just those two broken SMD capacitors: that card for sure was baked, reflowed with heatgun or something, probably flux for reflow/reball left a trace on the back of the PBC. Just look at that third warranty sticker with: E2(something) It should be white like one on this link but on pic of that card you've posted here it's almost transparent. It's a clear sign for me that something more is going on here, broken SMD capacitors were just a false excuse for seller. My advice: avoid...
the time where you can fix gpu card is over since years... when it's broken it is dead... so clearly: NO
That's great attention to detail, CrazY_Milojko! Apart from this, any used R9 290 might have bitcoin mining history so I wouldn't buy any day.uke2:
This. Never waste money on broken hardware. It doesn't matter how cheap it is, you're essentially throwing money away. Save dat money for a new card in the future (and like others have suggested a system update).
