Upgrade

I got the bug to update my current rig. Im thinking either a i5 2500k/Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H/G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB DDR3-1600/ Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB and keep my gtx 580 or get a 670 and sell my 580 and wait for Haswell? It will cost me about $500 to upgrade but i can get maybe a $150 for my current CPU/Ram and MB so maybe $350?.

Upgrade your CPU, MB, and Memory; keep everything else. This will put you back $416 according to newegg.com. The new CPU will breathe new life into your video card so don't upgrade that until you explore the full potential of your GTX 580. GL & Keep us posted.

If you can get an I5 3570K for the same price I'd take one of these over the I5 2500K. The GTX 580 still delivers a lot of punch, and combined with a faster CPU it's full potential will be unleashed.

Well if he' is planning for very high oc (beyond 4.4-4.6ghz) i think he will be better of with a 2500k.
The performance difference is so small the only extra feature he will get with an ivy is pci-e 3.0 and 1600mhz mem support.

I'd personally go for the 3570K over the 2500K - a 3570K @ 4.6Ghz = a 2500K @ 5Ghz, or thereabouts anyway. It is the slightly quicker processor and the pcie 3.0 will be handy with perhaps your next gpu upgrade even though today we are only just beginning to saturate pcie 2.0 - who knows how much more powerful gpus will become in the next 12-18 months especially once new consoles hit the market. Go for the newer tech if its within your budget, you may not need the extra features now but you'll be kicking yourself if within 12 months you suddenly need it.
