    Here is the stats of the computer i'm trying to tweak up for playing just CS!

    AMD k6-2 350mhz w/ 100mhz FSB
    8.4 gb harddrive
    44X CD Drive
    Voodoo 3 3000 16mb
    VIA MVP3 Chipset
    AGP 2x Slot
    192mb of SD pc100

    I have tried everything and only get 20 frames a second in Counter-Strike. What is up? I thought a 350mhz computer with this kind of ram could bust out more frames. I have tried all those third party drivers, wicked 3d and the rest of the stuff. So what is really up? let me know what settings and stuff to change. thanks for looking. I know this is my second time posting something like this! Also help out Darkmoine a bit!

    OGL/GLide:-
    * 3D Filter Quality = Normal
    * Alpha Blending = Smoother
    * Anti-Aliasing = Fastest Performance (no duh!)
    * Depth Precision = Faster (if this causes visual defects set back to "fast".)
    * Force 16bit Textures = Enable
    * Guardband Clipping = Enabled (Use EITHER Gaurdband clipping OR HSR, not both)
    * Hidden Surface Removal (HSR) = Aggressive Tiling (may cause visual defects)
    * Legacy Texture Compression = Enable
    * Level Of Detail Bias = 2 or 8 (depends on what driver set u have)
    * Maximum Buffered Frames = 1 (more buffered frames can increase performance but can cause system latency)
    * Mip Map Dithering = Disabled
    * Rendering Color Depth = Software Controlled
    * Triple Buffering = Enabled
    * Vertical Sync = Disabled (if suffering from erratic frame rates enable this for some FPS stability)

    Here's my settings in 3DFX toolbar for fastest settings that were reccommeced to me. Still crappy rate! Is it the processor???

    hey, i can't get past 20 frames on OpenGL w/ 640 X 480 resolution?! Whats going on here? Also, this is no fps_max deal. I got tht at 100 frames. Anyways, I have a Voodoo 5 5500 but i dont think that would do anything here.

    listen you have k2-350mhz it's like the pentium 2 250mhz...
    you cant afford yourself using win2k, not mentioning even xp...
    for you comp you should use win98.
    then perhaps your fps will improve. but dont count too much on your k2...

    i didnt think k6-2s were that bad man. i mean the thing at least has a 100mhz front side bus, and it was made against the pentium II at least. I mean I read places where k6-2+ 500mhz-550mhz compete with some celerons

    Ya I kno tht. The fcpga2 package is based on the P3 and the older ones (socket 370) are based p2s, but that dosn't justify my low frames. I have a friend that can get more frames on a Voodoo 2 w/ a 233mhz pent1. But, I will have to but windows 98 back on. My disc was screwed but ill get it out and let u kno how many fps i get.

    I know how to fix your problem.

    Step 1.) Get job

    Step 2.) Buy new computer

    Step 3.) Welcome to this decade

    Yes, it's quite likely that the proc is slowing things down quite a bit.
    IMO, windows 98 would be a better choice since it uses less resources than 2k does, though 2k can be a fast and stable OS if you disable the useles background services..

    I think that before installing 98, you should try disabling some services in 2k. It'll save some much needed cpu cycles and should help increase your performance all around.

    There is an excellent guide here: http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm

    Best of luck. :)

    Wouldn't a Celeron even run faster!

    Try setting under Display Settings: Mini glide (I believe that's what it's called..it's been so long that I've played CS with a V3 3k that I'm not completely sure). I may need to check it out at work tomorrow just to be safe.

    that CS FPS is odd...
    i had a P3 450 some time ago, and i used both TNT2 & V3... (not at the same time)
    and the FPS with tha TNT2 was alot better...
    its hard to belive that a game engine, based on a game from 1998 (the voodoo glory) cant present a high FPS on a voodoo3...
