Good approach. It`s just a thing about WWII - losses and war crimes were so monstrous, unthinkable, that word "happy" in context of memory of fallen is rarely used here in Russia (and back in USSR). My grandma fought herself, and I saw her meetings with fellow soldiers - they were really happy to see each other and really grief for the fallen ones. They were true family bonded by blood and fire.
I'm late to the thread, but I hope you had a good one. No reason to let it be sad, the point of the holiday is to remember, not to be down. Off topic, but that food makes me shed a tear, as I remember I live with vegans who are slowly poisoning me with their horrible vegetable eating ways. :wanker:
