Just got my system up and running yesterday! :D
Very happy this is a nice jump over my Haswell which could only manage 4Ghz. lol

Ran it through the Asus RealBench stress test for 6 hours no crashes, temps under 60C!
Tried for faster bclk but wouldn't post if I pushed past 110Mhz.

    Adaptive vCore = 1.26v
    Ram = 1.35v
    RAM frequency = 2800 MHz 14-14-14-34-1T
    Load-line = Level 5
    CPU current capability = 110%

Set to Adaptive Volts in the BIOS and set both adaptive settings to Auto. That will bring down voltage & temps a LOT!! My i7-6700K at stock clocks will run at ~1.14-1.15v with Adaptive Voltage. With the factory settings and Auto Voltage it jacks it up to 1.26v for some reason. It's perfectly stable at a much lower voltage.

I haven't a clue why the Intel and/or motherboard manufacturers choose such high voltage if you have it at the default Auto setting.

Installed d14, everything seems legit... Prime95 55c max, BF3 around 40-47c, gtaV 30-40c. Max peaks that shortly occur won't go past 55-57, so Im quite happy with it. Was going to go for d15, but Id have to wait for a week or so for it.. plus d14 is more than enough for my needs.
Anyway thx very much for your help guys and best of luck with your systems.

For a smart comparison can u post some 6700k cinebench score ?

    - @ stock (4.2 GHz) (auto oc freq)
    - @ 4.4 GHz (4970k's auto oc freq)
    - @ max oc

ps: i assume your mb is capable to mantain cpu @stock at max oc frequency (4.2 GHz for 6700k), otherwise set it to 4.2 GHz as stock speed.

can u post the same score of the i5 version too ?

i am a total nob about these cpu sockets (i only had 1366-2011-2011v3), but this could be interesting !

    Hi guys,

After my recent upgrade and going from p55 and i7 870 to 6700K and asus z170-a and some new RAM I noticed (with 980) that my fps increased greatly. Especially in battlefield 4.

Previously I could ultra everything and and I could put the "texture ?" scale to 110-115 with having around 55 fps.

Now with this processor and and new set up I can up the scale to around 140-150 and still having a better fps.

Is there really so much difference or am I imagining things?

BF4 uses a lot of CPU and you have just made a huge upgrade in raw CPU power so this improvement is to be expected.

Keep in mind that applying thermal paste is a different story on Skylake. Source and info here.

EDIT: ctrl+f paste, that should make it easier to find.

    happy 6600K owner here :)

only bumped it up to 4.2ghz @ 4 cores
but lowered the VID to 1.155v

    @SaberJ2X

I have the same board as you (Same cpu as well !)
But I cannot seem to find a way to OC my system.
All I have is the automatic performance boost.
How can I OC my system manually ?

    Regards,

    Durkalina

You apply thermal paste to Skylake based processors the same as you would a Sandy Bridge based processor. There is no difference.

I find I have one core (core 2) which is way hotter than the rest

Like this - always that core is way hotter

Just built a new intel system after using amd for the past 14 years, paired the 6700k with an Asus Maximus VIII Hero motherboard.

Hey guys. I just upgraded from a i7 920 to the i7 6700k. I have a corsair h75 water cooler on it and I applied mx4 thermal paste. It's over clocked to 4.5ghz at 1.35v.

I'm having a weird issue with the temps on it as a I monitor them though. It runs stable but the temps are very sporadic. They will idle at 23-26 at one point and then fly up to anywhere between 35-50 for a second. They jump all over the place. The same happens while gaming in GW2 so far. Temps arent consistent as they have a 25 degree spread ranging from 35-60.

Is it possible that the thermal paste needs to be reapplied or just set? Thanks for any responses.

I just used the included boost setting in the bios, set the uncore to 4.2Ghz and manually set the voltage

I am loving mine! But i do have that random temp jump like few others mentioned. It idles at 28-30 but if i open Chrome, it spikes to like 50-55 and then goes back down.

I am running 4.4Ghz with Evo212 so maybe its not good enough.

I also didnt increase voltage, left it at 1.280 i think. But its been running fine and not a single crash in a week. Would it worth increasing it a little bit, or since its all good i shouldnt worry?

There are couple of people here reported the same temp jumping so let's asume its normal. You can probably go up to 1.35v with Skylake so try 4.5-4.6ghz. Just watch out for temps, i dont think 212 evo can handle that much though.

I think i should be okay with up to 4.5 with evo, its no good after, but 4.4 is more than enough for now. I will run it for a little longer and upgrade cooler at some point if i need to go higher.

I'm Using an evo 212 on my 6700k overclocked to 4.5ghz and temps are great so the cooler is certainly upto the job.

Bought the 6700K from Aria today for £287 due to a limited special offer. Originally I was going to get the 4790K, but at that price the 6700k was a no brainer. Can't get the Mobo & ram until a week on Friday, so it's going to be sitting and staring at me.

My current CPU,Mobo and ram is going to my bro for his 30th birthday in a few weeks, quite the upgrade compared to what he has now, AMD 955be.
