Hi ! I curently have - Asrock motherboard with - 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance ( 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24 ) onboard RAM - Corsair CH600 PSU - intel 3570 CPU, and - MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost OC GPU. As you all know, not the best stuff but running fine for me . I was thinking upgrading GPU to MSI RX 480 gaming x 8gb, ( because i like quiet cards ), but recently, i'm thinking about going one step further and get MSI gtx1070 8gb. O yeah, i'm running all this on my 1080p monitor btw. Now the question is, will my system bottleneck 1070, especialy onboard RAM, or should i just get RX 480, and maybe 8gb of onboard RAM. My brain think RX480+ 8gb RAM, and my heart 1070. I kinda like the power of 1070 and i think that card will last longer because i dont think upgrading my comp for 4 years soon. I'm AMD fan for long time now and this kinda fells hard on me changing to NVidia, but Vega is so far away and 1070 seems like normal choice for now. Thx for answers
1070 is a no brainer if you can afford it. Much faster, cooler/quieter, less power consumption. CPU should be OK in new titles, older games it may bottleneck.
You should buy the GTX 1070 because you clearly want it and it will give a bigger boost to performance than an RX 480 + 8 GB DDR3. Your CPU will bottleneck your GPU however it won't be a big deal.
No it shouldn't. I had a 1070 on a 4.5Ghz 2500k and it was fine. If your board has the non-k OC and you can get to say 4.2Ghz it should be similar.
The 1070 will run circles around the 480. About bottlenecking, in some specific games you'd see a decent boost with a better cpu but the majority of games will chug along just nicely, nothing much to worry about.
Great ! I think i go with the 1070. Somehow i knew it, but needed some reality points for either side of the flag. Thx guys for quick reply's
Well it's finnaly here. The Gainward Phoenix 1070 . The card should be quiet and that's what i wanted. I sold my MSI HD 7950 and bought 1070. I guess i'm on green team now Hope i dont get dissapointed
I have Palit 1070 Super JetStream. It is practically same card as Gainward. Same PCB, same heat sink, same fans. Only difference are colors Card is very quiet and is running very cold. I am sure You will be happy with new card.
Well it's finally instaled and I just finnished Heaven bench. The card rocks!! It's quiet, max temp under bench was 66, and fans spining at 805 rpm. It's a great card and a massive upgrade form hd7950. Check results compared to my HD7950, and thx for tips Heaven benchmark 4.0 ( Basic edition ) - EXTREME - HD7950 Score - 1024 Min FPS - 18.8 Max FPS - 92.4 1070 Phoenix Score - 2903 Min FPS - 27.8 Max FPS - 222.9 I like it
Ofc i installed Nvidia drivers. Are there any settings that i need to adjust in settings, or should i leave everything on default? Never had Nvidia
Dilema? What dilema? If you can afford the GTX 1070, go for it. Is such on a different level of performance, the RX 480 is not even considered a competitor. EDIT nevermind, saw you made the right call. As far as drivers are concerned, you can leave it on default, although you should consider changing the energy settings to max performance and if you have a single monitor change "multiple monitors" to "max perf in single monitor". You may also, disable triple buffers. For more grain ajustments, you can tune each program/game profile settings under "Aplications Settings"
I would have thought the GTX 1070 would lead by even more than that. The GTX 1070 should be faster than the RX 480, it's twice the price! This is not only where I am, but on Newegg for US as well. They have the cheapest non-refurbished or open box RX 480 at $164.99 after $20 rebate (second most expensive one $174.99 after $15 rebate). The GTX 1070 is twice the price of a RX 480 4 GB, the cheapest non-refurbished or open box being $394. If a US$349.99 GPU can't beat a $164.99 GPU, there's something seriously wrong or crappy about that $349.99 GPU. Although being 4 GB for the RX 480 used in this example, at 1920x1080 gaming it isn't a hinderance. Any higher resolution I'd go 8 GB, but then again, higher resolution you'd be better off with a new CPU and system. If you go for the 8GB RX 480, it is still $199.99 after a $30 rebate for the Asus Strix RX 480 8GB, so a GPU costing $349.99 should be 75 percent faster if price is representative of performance. The true competitor for the RX 480 is the GTX 1060, and on price you only get a 3 GB version for the same price as a 4 GB RX 480... and the RX 480 is faster. Hardly. AMD drives have been great for a long time, even back in the day when there may have been some validity to the argument, much of it was Nvidia snobbery more than factual. Even then there were plenty of issues with Nvidia drivers, just Nvidia fanbois would never admit it (as they still never do now).
