Unexplained disappearance of start menu items -
07-30-2012, 15:14
| posts: 2,177 | Location: Logd n jst 2 change avatar
Anyone seen my other programs/software around - Use to have more than this. Did a restart after uninstalling a couple of games and upon going to open Waterfox I noticed a lot of items were missing. I did have waterfox pinned but windows told me that this program cannot be found and would i like to remove it from the start menu...But it's still installed.
Also my hard drive space has not changed.
Any ideas.
Below - I seem to have lost paint and misc items that windows has by default.

Below - Now I know i had more than this, way more and same goes for program folders.

Ahh my bad, sorry I'm using the Start Menu not the Classic option.
But I did swap back and followed what is in that guide but it didnt change anything, also i opened the start menu folder located - C:\Users\Kane\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\St art Menu\Programs_____ and my other programs are not in there. I cant say that I've had this issue before.

Personalization can only be enabled/disabled via the Classic Menu....
Disabling it won't bring back your shortcuts, only stop them from being deleted ion the future.
Hope this helps otherwise I'm not sure what made your programs disappear...

I think it was a bogus plugin for Fire/Waterfox call Codec-c, I dwnldd and ran Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which it picked up, Microsoft's Security Essentials did not even though its up to date, first time it's let me down (that i know of).

Have no idea, I was checking my plugins after reading the thread about Ubisoft's Uplay supposed back door and found Codec-c installed in there.
At the time my shortcuts and start menu where all good and even after i disabled and removed the plugin from Waterfox, so thought I'd have a look in Add Remove Programs in control panel and sure enough it was in my list of installed programs:
Click on Codec-C - Click Uninstall - Nothing happens - Hardrive spins up - Whatevers - Uninstall a couple of old games while im here - restart - load up windows aaannnd items missing from start menu....neat aye:/
Also before I uninstalled it when i was in another thread in the frontpage I had this problem: Word and Port.

What hell's goin on, is just me getting this.
Edit: I disabled an addon in waterfox - Codec 1.0c and that seems to have fixed it.

Awesome find thanks man , Looks like Malwarebits did its thing in removing the prick now im just running the reg repair tool with CCleaner. Be back soon.
Still not fixed. But when dropping this into Run:C:\Windows\System32\mspaint.exe paint pops up as it should, same with calc.exe
Meh, I just ended up copying shortcuts back into the Accessories folder.
If anyone could please post a list of what should be located in the Accessories folder as I can't remember whats missing that would be great, thanks.
