Picking up a GTX 550TI, just curious is it best to buy a 2GB version or 1GB version. I have 4GB of memory already in my computer. Should i just stick the 2GB and buy the 1GB and increase my computer memory to 8GB?
I think a 2 gig 550 is a waste. I do not think its strong enough to utilize the extra video memory. if its exactly the same price get the 2 gig otherwise 1 gig
So do I The only realistic way for these to be at the same price is if the 2GB has lower memory timings, or even lower clocks, that would make the 2GB measurably slower than the 1GB card.
Um i know that :wanker: , that's why i said should i just get a 1GB card and add more memory to my desktop. Thus, better performance than i already have. Anyways, seems like i have no choice but to go with the 1GB version because the 2GB version is out of my price range at best buy. 1GB is only 149 or 142, while the 2GB is 200 bucks. I just wanted to get a updated nvidia card over my 9800gt, so the 550ti 1gb will be just fine. I don't shop online, sorry. thanks. peace
For that card, 1 gig. OC it to 1000 Core clock out of the box. It will be a huge increase from your 9800.
what resolution do you game at? but with a gtx 550ti you should be ok with 1gb. still go with 2gb if the price difference isn't too much. what is the price difference btw?
I only game at 1920x1080 depending on the game and most of the time at 1360x768. My 5750 plays all my games perfectly fine, just wanted a nice newer up to date nvidia card to replace my 9800gt. Also to play GTA IV smoother. I notice nvidia cards plays GTA IV much smoother at slightly higher settings. I am going to get the 1gb version. Price difference, well with tax the gtx 5501gb will cost 160 or 152. The 2gb version is going to be 200 bucks.
Nah, I think he does. He's saying maybe he should just save money and go with the 1 GB. Then, with the money he saves by doing that, he'll upgrade to 8gb ram instead since he only has 4gb of ram right now. I think he understands the difference between system ram and vram.
XL_Ence thank you for clearing that up. Tomorrow morning going to buy the OC Pny 550ti edition. The ram i will just wait until i build my AMD system and get 8GB for that build.
Of course the 1 GB version. 2 GB for a 550 is totally pointless. It's not powerful enough for the situations that require more than 1 GB VRAM.
dude go on newegg...I ordered a friend an open box gtx 560 ti for 170 dollars the other day an the think works perfectly fine.
Sorry man i only shop at newegg for other things. Not going to buy a video card from online and i get it and it doesn't work or die on me, when i can just go to the store right down the street from me and have the card within 5mins lol, which i am about to go get right now. :wanker:
Dont expect miracles in GTA4.. Sorry to say this, but will be the same as that 9800gt.. A 560TI won't help much either, its your cpu holding it back.. Even at 3ghz it will be to slow. But if you dont care then go with at least a castrated 336core 560TI, it will be a lot better then 550Ti. With this 550ti you're throwing money out of the window.
Well they had the 2GB version, but i forget EVGA sucks. So i bought the PNY version of the 550TI. GTA IV runs pretty good like i wanted it with my 5750. My goal isn't to run GTA IV at max with full shadows and get 60 frames. I can play games just fine at a solid 35-40. You're trolling, gotcha. Wait what? Who said i was having trouble playing games :wanker:
Q6600 is somewhat limiting in modern day games, but it really depends on which games you play as some will be more/less CPU intensive than others. My GF has a Q6600 @ 3.0 GHz paired with a GTX 460. In Battlefield 3, I find find the GPU utilization is stuck around %60 - %70 due to the CPU limiting it. Battlefield 3 is a CPU intensive game, however.
