Patriot Memory Spark 512 GB SSD to cost just 105 USD

Not sure the name 'Spark' is the best thing to have on something that you defintely don't want sparks around, but other than that it looks like a good option for those wanting a decent amount of space at a competitive price.

 

Now this is something that will give all the older notebooks with HDDs new life for a super low price.

 

If they perform well they could really bring prices down even further.

 

My 8 year old notebook would really benefit from a SSD - both for speed and battery life. Might not reach max speeds due to its SATA2 controller, but I'm sure it'll help.

 

The sooner we get down to £50 for a 512gb SSD the better. We'll then be able to get rid of smaller HDDs and use the larger ones for storage only.

In the real world i'd like an M2 256gb for OS/drivers and bench/diag software.

2tb PCIe SSD for games that i'm playing and 2x 4tb HDDs for total back up and movie/iso storage.

Total cost £1000 for all of them, not something the avg PC gamer can afford just yet.

 

Sorry to perturb you even more but the 2TB version is called "Ignite".

 

There is also a rumored release of a 4TB drive codenamed "Combust".

 

My Mushkin 1TB SSD's were $200, so this is not ground breaking at all. Speeds are slightly better.

As far as I'm concerned the faster laptop HDDs die the better.

Budget laptops have some seriously bad hard drives. Had an Asus K53SM (2670QM, 8GB RAM) and I was paralyzed the moment I saw what a difference an SSD made. That 5400RPM hard drive was more than slow.
Granted, even a budget SSD like a Kingston V300 would make a whole world of difference just because of the very low access times.

 

Nice! Been a fan of their RAM and USB thumb drives for quite some time. $105 for 512MB? Damn that's hard to pass up!

 

you can get muskin reactor for 512gb for under 100 and 1tb for under 200$ so this not really any cheaper then the normal it actual more.

1TB has to drop under 60$ for SSD to take over it still to expensive. it been 2 years since it said that would happen it still hasnt, I think there keep the price up purposely still. and HDD price have been more expensive since that tsunami that took out the hdd plants not as bad as it was after words but still more then it was before it happen.

 

Hell only 3 months ago I paid $125 for my Sandisk 512GB.

Im waiting for 1TB SSD to be $150 or less brand new.

Just a cheap Sata II Intel 320 40GB made my ION2 HTPC ustairs run 10X better.

Disk read went from 80mb to 220mb.
