Nice job! Kudos to Royicus! I love modding, drilling, cutting and Frankensteining things. Now I'm gonna go dig through my parts box and try this on my "old" 7600 GT. Good going Dood!
Thanks for the support. Work carefully. Measure thrice and cut once. If you do it right, you should be very pleased with the outcome. Probably about the best air cooling you can do.
Nice temps, what if you use a thermalright heatsink or othe brand instead of the factory one, results will be better
The MSI heatsinks are so huge and heavy they already weight the cards down. I was gonna try this with my old 7600gs and a Extreme Volcano heatsink from a Socket A rig. heavy as poo.
I have a Zalman 7000AlCu cpu cooler laying around and I have a X1950GT, right not it's running at 88c at max load. Is there anyway to mount the Zalman cooler on the X1950GT? Anyone tried something like this before? Thanks. Here's a reference picture of the cooler.
Just an update, the Zalman 7000's holes fits perfectly, but the fins hits the mobo when I tried to plug in the card. So I modded an old socket A cooler for the card. The temp went from 85c load to 75c, so there's a good improvement there. But the the oc didn't increase much, the core went from 675mhz to 688mhz (with voltage now at 1.53v), the memory actually lost 20mhz. So this is not a worth while mod for most people.
want to try this with my old 7300LE ... can anyone help as i am a total newbie (come on guy u shud encouraging new blood).... i dont know know how and where to find find the bracket to put on the back of the card to hold the heatsink ... any pionters plz ? good day
i did this mod yesterday with a old athlon xp 2200 fan. i accedently broke my stock 7600gt cooler but this mod kicks ass my temps droped to about 45-46c and they dont pass 57c on load considering i was in the idle at 60c and spiking to 80c this summer. now i can oc my card again lol. hmm i did lose a bit in the process i broke it haha
