Phantasy Star Online 2 - Character Creator and Benchmark now available

Phantasy Star Online 2 is a sequel to SEGA's Phantasy Star Online, which was an online co-op action rpg that was released for the Dreamcast, Gamecube, Xbox and PC.

The game is being released for the PC sometime later this year or maybe next year on Japan (no information about an english release so far), and today were released the first screenshots and gameplay video.

    Gameplay video:

    Screenshots and early information:
    http://bumped.org/psublog/phantasy-star-online-2-hi-res-screens/

The footage is possibly based on a pre-alpha or alpha version, since in Japan there's going to be an alpha test for the game this summer.

To have an idea of what will be the requirements for the game, here's the alpha system requirements:

    UPDATE (April 5, 2012):
The character creator and benchmark demo is now available for download.

Looks promising. Loved the Dreamcast version of this just hope that they don't go down the World of Warcraft route and change a monthly fee for playing.

It belongs to the same franchise, but it's not in the same series (when it comes to storyline and setting).
This one is a sequel to Phantasy Star Online, while the PSP game (Phantasy Star Portable 2) was based on the Phantasy Star Universe series.

When it comes to gameplay, looks like Phantasy Star Online 2 will be based on all games from the franchise (Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Zero, Phantasy Star Universe and Portable series), and will improve on what they had.

Most likely it will have a monthly fee, since keeping servers online costs money. It could end up being free to play though, but it would probably need to have cash shops (that is, microtransactions, buying extra items with real money).

Can't wait for this, I did play on the US servers of PSU before they shut down on PC and PS2, play on the JP servers sometimes every now and then and still play BB.

    A few new pictures.
The first 3 pics were shown a few weeks ago, they're showing 2 ranger characters (the class that uses guns).

    http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Ramarl-PSO2.jpg
    http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/RAcast.jpg
    http://bumped.org/psublog/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/RACast-2.jpg

And today 3 more pics were shown, one that shows the mascot enemy of the series, the Rappy, and the others show 2 force characters (class that uses magic).
These 3 pictures seem to be based in a newer build of the game, since the environment textures and even the lighting seem to be better.

Phantasy Star Universe and the Portable series also had twin and double sabers, most likely PSO2 is going to have them too.

I am an owner pf the PSP series and played PSO before and i love the whole mechanic of the game. I hope they keep the same or similar formula like the previous games.
