Is there a way to have a message (like the one you get when you recieve a pm) popup when a user come online (forum) to let them know that there was a new post or topic posted to this part of the forum?

I believe you can subscribe to a thread and it will notify you. Ahh found it, just go to "Thread tools" and click subscribe.
