This is my first post in the forum, so Hello Everyone !

    My build is :

    i7 4770k
    8gb Ram
    GA Z87X - oc
    Thermatake 750w PSU
    2x R9 280x VaporX CrossFire

As the title says, im having performance issues with Crossfire.

I have installed the two cards on my computer + one Crossfire Bridge and i have installed the 14.4 Stable Catalyst driver.

The problem is that i get decent results in 3dMark Firestrike , around 13k which seems pretty ok, while in games (i have tried all Crysis 1.0 versions) it seems that i have no performance boost and according to MSI Afterburn the 2nd GPU isn't used at all.

In Tomb Raider things get event worse, as the 2nd GPU is used at 46%, but the chart is spiky, unlike the 1st GPU which is constalntly at 98-99%, and Framerate is higher when i have the Crossfire Disabled from CCC !!?!

Im going to try out the beta drivers, and update the games to see if it makes any difference.

    Am I doing something wrong?
Is the powersupply not powerful enough?

Thank you in advance & waiting for your replies!

Have you got the cards installed in the 16x and 8x PCI express slots? If you have one of them in the 4x slot that will greatly reduce performance.

No, 4x will not cause the issues he is mentioning.

OP, disable ULPS. I use MSI Afterburner to do that.

I think your 750W PSU might be limiting their power. Just a thought.

The 4x slot on that board is a PCI-Ex 2.0 4x - Equivalent to 3.0 2x - which imo would bottleneck the performance (only if the card actually is in that slot)

my first inclination from the research I have done, is that your PS isnt sufficient for the 2 cards. I have a 1k PS and with my 4820k and 16G ram...I have some overhead. even on the box's they recommend a 1k PS for Crossfire...and if you do the math, I think it ends up somewhere in the 750-800w ballpark when running at load if i recall correctly. Just my $.02. :)

Yeah, that's what I thought (above). I think you would need a 850W at least but 1000 is def better.

So far, even running Crysis 3 MAXED out @ 2560x1080 with ALL detail, Ive yet to have one glitch or anything. My tower is quite warm but not one issue.

edit : I have found ONE problem so far, with Last Light, after certain scenes it chops up like crazy. Ive tried turning down the detail a bit but it still stutters horribly. Ill look into this in the next day/2 and see what kind of a solution I can find.

edit 2 : seems to be a problem with having the option 'advanced physx' ON. Turn it off, and the problem goes away. The more I hear about Physx causing problems, the more I'm glad I stayed with the red team. Ive had very few problems on my AMD hardware to date and most drivers dont do too horrible things visually, so I can't complain, really. :)

    - disable ULPS
    if Performance issues presiste
    - ensure none of the GPU's are reducing the clock speeds
    if clock speed variation occur
    - set the power limit to 20%
    if Performance issues presiste
    - install 2 Crossfire Bridges
    if Performance issues presiste
-try different drivers, and even the new beta's
