So what is your guys' opinion on the nVidia strategy to pick out Founders Edition Cards and sell them higher priced? What I'm afraid of is that nVidia will pick out all the high ASIC(or whatever they will go by) cards out and set them as the Founders Edition cards and there wont be any high clocking 1080's(normal ones) to be sold at all. So you're actually stuck paying 100 euro more(might go higher depending on demand) to get a good overclocker. It sure as hell wouldn't come as a surprise if nVidia went this way. If the Founders Edition cards sell well, I'm sure they will do it to all the new cards coming along the line also just so they can milk an extra 100 from the enthusiasts. Will it eventually go down the road of Intel and locking down the non Founders Edition cards?
Probably just an attempt to sell more of the reference model cards since hardly anybody buys those anyway. Most people buy the cards with the better coolers from EVGA, MSI, ASUS, etc...
Not sure if its due to the limited gddrx5 stock or the limited 16nm finfet chips, since Apple also shares that process node with TSMC and will get the bulk of them. If you know that whatever few cards you can make with limited parts will be quickly sold out on day 1, might as well create a Founders Edition to make more money out of it.
