Hi i have a pretty simple question

    I5 3470 vs 2500k

My mate is upgrading to a 3770k very soon and he offered me his 2500k.
Now my current decision is do i keep my current cpu or go to this one for no
cost and the benefit of Overclocking.Or do i keep my current one and keep PCIe 3.0 and a few small things.

Mostly use my PC for rendering videos and recording but my C985 does all the recording work for that.

So in short is it worth it or should i not bother.I would like people to keep in mind
AMD are not releasing much and Intel is just left to release little to no performance updates in they're newer chips.

What about the I5 3470 at 3.8 Ghz with overclocking using the turbo boost head room.
If i do take the cpu and overclock it to get more performance i lose features of Ivy Bridge and use more power and create heat.

Now it looks less like a good choice.

The amount of power and heat for a minor OC on a 2500k is negligible. By minor I'm talking 4.2-4.4 which will most definitely out perform your current setup. What specific features do you actually feel you need with Ivy Bridge?

I have a Asrock Z77 Extreme-4 I like USB 3.0 and i wonder if i will lose that with going back to a 32nm cpu and i know PCIE 3.0 makes little to no difference but at huge Resolutions with 2 cards it will make a difference.

Question is it worth it.And would a Hyper 212 be enough for overclocking.
I would like to see a more stable fps in BF3 and slightly faster rendering.

I imagine that a faster CPU will make more of a difference to your PC experience than PCIE3.0, even taking larger resolutions into account when gaming. A hyper 212 would be fine for a light OC such as the one I mentioned. You wont lose USB 3.0, the controller is on the motherboard I believe.

I'd say the real question is, how much will the 2500K set you back, if anything? You only stand to benefit in the long run imo.

The 2500k will cost me nothing and my I5 3470 will go into my 2nd media pc or i could sell it to my mate hes a MMO player and get some $$$.

I'd go for it in that case.

Jump on that 2500k now before your friend reconsiders. Hyper 212 EVO is plenty I have a 4.5Ghz overclock on a 2500k in my livingroom PC with the same cooler no heat issues.

Thanks for helping me work it out and make a logical choice.
And yeah will do and hes not reconsidering Hes upgrading to a 3770k needs a bit more
cpu power with Dual GTX 780s.

The 2500K overclocked is a bit better in heavy workloads. Medium or less though and I doubt you'd notice much. With that said, all you lose by "downgrading" is PCI-E 3.0 which means quite literally nothing unless you have a 780 or a Titan.

3 or 4 titans or 780 running at a very high resolution will show pci e 3.0 benefits. no single card will benefit from pci e 3.0 as theres plenty of bandwidth on pci e 2.0

Nahh not going to do that selling it to my mate for 100$ so he can have his pc built
and i can keep my spare I3 in my media pc.And if i went 3770k i would just buy a I7 3820 there cheaper here and have been for 6 months.

That would require you to buy a new motherboard.

True. But if i did sell both and get a I7 i would just go LGA 2011 a 3770k is a waste for me.Just pointing out my reasons.
