I still don't 100% understand the adaptive vsync so I still use regular vsync. Can anyone explain it?

When you can hit the same framerate (or higher) as your monitors refresh (ie 60fps and 60Hz), then vsync is on.
When the framerate is under the monitors refresh rate (ie 45fps and 60Hz), vsync is off.

    Thats it.
Its so you get the maximum framerate when you cant hit the monitors refresh rate.
But you can get tearing when fps is below the monitors refresh rate due to no vsync.

I understand vsync, just not what makes adaptive vsync different. Are you saying adaptive vsync turns it off and on?

If I can get a solid 60fps for the whole game I use adaptive because it is a 'soft' vsync aka double buffered and obviously has less input lag. Regular vsync comes out to play if the frame dips under 60 because screen tearing is horrible.

I only tried adaptive vsync one time and it was annoying as hell when going below max FPS. Not only do you see tearing, but you are reminded that your system can't keep up with the game. It ruins the immersion completely.

If it works in game, theres no need to do anything else.

when using adaptive v sync, you gpu usage is lower while at 60fps, when it goes below 60 your gpu usage goes up as its its disabled. you can notice that on screen through msi afterburner or precision. thats the adaptive part. Its not a 100% fix, but another option for users.

vsync only if I am sure that I can run solid 60fps, adaptive otherwise.
adaptive by default then moving to regular if I can handle so I voted adaptive.

Vsync on permanently, If your using adaptive vsync then you dont have the power to maintain a constant fps at your monitors refresh rate.

There arnt many games that i get this experience but the ones that i do like Crysis 3 i put aside for a rainy day for when i have more powerful hardware.

Theres usually loads of mods out by the time i get around to playing many games tbh.

If I can maintain a solid 60, I use V-Sync only. Otherwise, I turn to Triple Buffering. It's only when games give me issues with Triple Buffering, I use Adaptive.
