wirless/desktop problem!!!

    this is very confusing so please help me my masters!!! lol.. anyway i got a laptop, its got wirless, ive got a desktop it doesnt have wireless, i have a wirless router Linksys WRTG45 linked up to it, i use laptop to connect to net it works, i try to transfer files it doesnt, i click on show workgroup computers it has onli the laptop name when im on the laptop so its reading the own name, it doesnt have desktop name, It does the same for the desktop, the workgroup names are the same, the ip on the laptop is set on Automatic, the desktop is set on a ..................., if i set to ................on laptop net doesnt work... WHAT SHOULD I DEW???

    You don't say what IP the router is..

    Typical Manual Settings:

    Router:
    IP: 192.168.0.1
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0

    PC1:
    IP: 192.168.0.2
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

    PC2:
    IP: 192.168.0.3
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

    You may set your DNS servers in the router (or it may be automatic) or manually put them into each PC. You should also be able to use the router's IP as a DNS server.
