So I have this virus on my netbook, it is very annoying, whatever USB I plug in automatically turns all the files inside it into "shortcuts" and run a CMD exectuable. I would prefer using the "reinstall OS from scratch as a last resort, but can someone tell me an easier solution outside of running an anti virus / scan etc? if so can you please tell me something light?

Its a netbook with 1 GB of ram so please be gentle.

The files and all run but if I do run something then it shows a cmd box for a split second and disappears, and then the file runs.

can someone please help me get rid of this pain in the ass virus?

    Forgot to mention system

    running a netbook

    1.6 Ghz Atom
    1GB Ram
    160GB HDD

etc and on Win 7 32 bit

Make a full scan with MBAM as a first try.

The most easier solution is to give netbook to the specialist.

That won't work if it has a MBR infection. Formatting the HDD will leave the MBR intact.

I would run a Live Windows to cure this infection. http://www.ubcd4win.com/

Download and run this app TDSSKILLER from the Live Windows http://media.kaspersky.com/utilities/VirusUtilities/EN/tdsskiller.exe

Another Option Sophos Bootable Anti-Virus tool

    Kaspersky Rescue Disk

    @mmicrosysm
    very good advices
may i add something to the mix?
on a separate computer (assuming it is clean) download Yumi USB
get another usb thumbdrive, plug it in ,run yumi, choose your usb drive letter, choose whatever you like from antivirus software list(i use Avira,Bitdefender and Panda).
Boot up your infected machine from this live usb you just created, while boots you can safely connect to LAN ,choose an antivirus from the list, let it do the magic.
