    Hi.
Didn't see a thread her about 4K Gaming with SLI.

So as a proud new owner of the PB287Q 4K monitor for Asus I wanted to share my experience with it so far.

And starting off is the worst nvidia bug ever!
Games doesn't work in Full screen :(
You have to play in window mode, which isn't very ideal for gamers.
Some games support borderless and that's a tad better but still not good enough.

Tips for gamers with 4k monitors.
Disable all Post FX filters etc if you want to enjoy the 4k crisp resolution. I could write 10 pages about this but ill try to keep it short.
Nvidia Amd have for some reason gone in the direction of fighting Aliasing with blur filters.
    Instead of improving true AA.
The sad thing about it is that a lot of games don't offer the option to turn this filters and enhancements off.
Any way my point is, this might have looked better for some in 1080p who like games that's blurry but with smooth edges.
But this filters applied to a game running 4k reduces the quality a lot!
So much that you might not actually see a lot of difference from a regular 1080p monitor.

Windows 7 and Upscaling, don't count on it.
The first thing i did naturally after hooking the monitor up was to increase the scale in windows 7 to 150%. It messed up everything, could not hit the X button in the upper corner on regular windows and third party software texts does not scale right, which results in poor quality text.

Forget Google chrome. Get Firefox if you want proper scaling.

    Back to gaming.
Be sure to have an incredible gaming rig before you even think about buying a 4k monitor to game with.

    My specs:
    i7 4790K @4,7Ghz
GTX Titans 3Way Sli, EK Waterblocked.
    Dominator Platinum Series — 16GB 2400Hz.
    Gigabyte x97 G1 Gaming.
    Samsung Revo 250GBx2 Raid 0.
WD Desktop Black 500GBx4 Raid 0
    WD Desktop Black 4TB

So far I'v played mostly FarCry3 and its a stuttering nightmare.
I can run the game at high quality and get 110 frames + but its still a stuttering nightmare, worse than what you'd expect from farcry in 1080p
Though FarCry is known for bad stuttering in 1080, its extremly annoying and even close to unplayable as it is now in 4K resolution.
Setting every setting to low doesn't help either, in fact it only makes it worse.
Tried with Vsync also but without prevail.

I had the same problem with my samsung 4k display. There is a thread on the nvidia forum that talk about it : https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/727637/4k-sli-issue.

    1. Nvidia had to release a driver for the 4k display res.
    2. One guy discover that the sli bridge was the problem, i myself bought a EVGA SLI pro bridge. Will see if i will have the same results has the others guy. I had a lot of flicker and crash in game like watch dogs, Farcry3 and AC4

I am playing now in 2560x1440p and all my games work perfectly fine in SLI with the 340.52 driver.

will be back to gave some feedback on the new bridge. :3eyes:

    Samsung 4k display.
    WINDOWS 8.1 64 bits

I would be pointing the finger at the SLI bridge if you are experiencing stutter. Can confirm a few instances where the bridge was indeed causing problems

I can assure you guys its not the bridge.
It has been extensively tested by others over at the nvidia geforce forum, with tons of different bridges.

I haven't tested 2560x1440. But neither do I want to.
I fully expect Nvidia to be able to support 4k 3840x2160, in full-screen :p

You need atleast a card with 4GB Vram.
I'm super glad I got my Titan when I see the vram getting very close to 4.
Once I'm done with Skyrim I expect to see vram 5+
And you need an sli setup if you want decent fps.

it IS 100% the sli connector. There is only 1 that works to my knowledge. The new revision of the 2/3 way evga bridge.

Nothing worked out of 10 connectors and 8 cables for me to fix the stutter and sometimes flashing picture in some games but the second I got this sli bridge something installed in windows the second I plugged it in and 4k has been silky smooth fullscreen 4k for months since.

    Wow sounds amazing :p
Ill try the other connectors iv recently got from my Gigabyte G1 x97.
However what's strange is that's the problem why does it work in window mode?

Can you try to find out what exactly was installed?

    Oh my God!

I don't believe it lol!

It actually was the SLI connector!
Apparently the cables doesn't work, guess they aren't fast enough?

I changed my cable out with a 3 way hard bridge(not cable) from gigabyte.
And what the hell, it fixed a ton of problems! :wanker:
FarCry 3 Actually runs smooth and I get better frames, haha.

Thank you soo much, Ill report this on the Nvidia Geforce Forum.

My 4k display work ok with the new bridge. Unbelievable it solved my stuttering, flicker and crash. Game run smooth and run ok. I think that the flexible SLI cable introduced spurious because of the speed and configuration for the 4k that must be different.

The one I had all sorts of visual problems with was a 2 Way SLI RoG black bridge. The actual 3 Way SLI rev 1.00G bridge is working np same goes for the orange 2 Way SLI MSI bridge I used before.

I contacted NIVIDIA but no answer

I have a samsung tv 4k, I go through the hdmi
everything works in 30hz 4k and all the other resolution
in 4k 60hz in games that support the sli make me a green screen toggle
60hz it in windowed mode works but I think in the window fashion sli is cut

To have 60Hz you have to use a display connector. 30Hz with HDMI.:)

Sorry but Display Port is needed for 60hz at 4K resolution. HDMI will get you nowhere fast.

    A) HDMI

The current HDMI 1.4 standard only has bandwidth for 4K at 30hz. HDMI 2.0 will add support for 4K at 60Hz. Details should become clearer in late 2013. There are a few TVs on sale today that support 4K @ 30Hz through HDMI.

    B) DisplayPort 1.2

DisplayPort can support 4K @ 60Hz using Multi-Stream Transport(MST). The graphics card provides signals for multiple displays but these are multiplexed on a single cable. Computer monitors such as the ASUS PQ321Q 31.5-in 4K 60 Hz Tiled Monitor take input using this format.

HDMI 1.4 does not support 60hz in 4K.

HDMI 2.0 will when it's released.

For now you need Display Port 1.2 to achieve 60hz at 4K no matter if it's RGB or another format.

I still post some links, but if you slap 4k hdmi 60hz in google
you take the first link AnandTech
you will have the explanation that the 60hz 4k runs HDMI 1.4a
and it works very well for me in single gpu and sli without 3d
3d in sli works in 30hz
but in single gpu everything works has 60hz ....

Atm the deal is if you have any current GPU, it does not support HDMI 2.0.
Nvidia and ATI however both have work arounds, like compression.
It still looks amazing imo, even with the compression.
    Currently I have a 50" 4k, 60hz samsung, with hdmi outputs only.. >.>
    Fail samung..lol.
I mean they have frikkin composite jacks in the back but not a DP port? That's just silly.
But I am using nvidias compression method, on one gtx 680 and it runs very nicely on mass effect 1, 2 and 3, heavily modded for 4k, @60hz.
Looks amazing imo, waay better than 1080p.
    Makes 1080 look like 720.

Once the next gen of cards comes out with HDMI 2.0.
Then, as long as your TV has HDMI 2.0, you're set.
Otherwise you need display port 1.2.

Using an HDMI to display port adapter, will not solve anything."I tried"
Using an HDMI 2.0 cable will not solve anything. "I tried"
Changing SLI bridges will not solve anything. "I tried 3, ROG, EVGA pro sli rev 2.0, and MSI".

Sli will work at the next driver release for Nvidia @4k, 60hz, via their work around. per Manuel at Nvidia.
Until then it is one GPU only.
Your TV or monitor will need to support Y'CbCr 4:2:0 over HDMI 1.4.

    Hopefully it won't be long.
They are due to release a driver any day now, per their track record.
    Last was 6/29/14.
