I bought a Asus G73JH from best buy in 09 which originally had a 5870m (similar to a 5770). The 5070m died on me in December of 2011 and so I found a forum that had an unofficial upgrade from a 5870m to a 7970m. Had some serious tweaking to do on the physical aspect of it plus a blind flash to disable enduro on the card itself. About 6-8 hours worth of work and 700 bucks for the hardware and tools, I have had a fully functional G73JH with a 7970m. It's done very well over the years. BF4 on it runs great especially when using Mantle, Max Settings with the occasion drops of FPS but I think that is more CPU related than GPU. It has the original 720qm, which I maxes out at 2.8ghz. Been thinking about upgrading it to a 920xm or 940xm which go well over 3ghz when OC'ed. I think a new CPU will greatly improve performance.

I've had it for some time now, 2012 with the upgrade, I figure when I first did the upgrade I would possibly be giving it 3 to 5 years worth of life before it could no longer keep up with modern games. I'm thinking maybe it will last longer seeing how current gen console have less then spectacular performance, as such games will be made to perform to their performance.

Here what the final product looks like. I used thermal adhesive paste for the copper heat sinks. I'm sure some of you guys will get a kick from this picture. I'll put it as a link otherwise it will probably cover your screen if I just post the picture outright.

This is before the final product, was still trying to figure out how to place the heatsinks, I was using thermal tape pads.

LMAO you don't say? So what your saying it, after 2-3 years of use with the mod, you believe I am going to have a "light show" as you called it?
You must of not read my original post. I've had it like this for almost 3 years. This mod was done with precision. Only the surface of each capacitor and IC chip were covered in AS Adhesive. Not a single drop made it to the main board or any of the solder contact points. Unlike others who attempted this mod, I succeeded, I was careful, some were not.

But if you want proof, here I just did this benchmark specifically for you. Oh and look, there was no "light show" as you called it.
