    My fellow ati enthusiasts ,

I got myself an ASUS HD 7990 , along with an EK copper waterblock.

plugged it to my waterloop, undervolted a modded no-throttling bios i got from another forum and flashed it back to the card.

Now i got a "cool" 7990 with 1000/1500 stock clocks running stable at 1.114v 24/7.

Since temps never exceed 45-50c i pushed voltage all the way to 1.3v (using MSI afterburner) and tried to raise core clock.

Unfortunately it wont go over 1050mhz !! Causing hang-crash in OCCP GPU test.

Is there any other bios you could recommend ?

would the ASUS ARES II bios work on my card ?

Also what driver version would you recommend for better crossfire performance ?

    Thanks !

LtMatt is handing out some very bad advice.

I'm not surprised you have issues because the "modded" bios is for a Volterra and the ARES 2 has the ChL8228.

Current leakage also needs to be compensated for when vgpu and power limit is programmed in BIOS and it's different on each card.

I noticed the min/max power limits were changed as well....

Reflash to the stock BIOS and I'll mod it for you if you like, but tbh you should use AB anyway.

i dont own the ARES 2 , just asking if it was compatible with reference 7990

i'll flash to stock bios and try overclocking via the MSI Afterburner , will come back with results

And thanks for offering to help

Well the BIOS u linked to was for a ChL but if u have Volterra it'll work.

Hey did u flash both roms or only one? You need to flash each GPU separately

i just finished testing the fresh bios flash...

the bios previously loaded (the modded) was the same version as the one linked but for some reason it wouldnt overclock.

i flashed both with the latest stock bios , from the last link of techpowerup , upped voltage to 1.3 and voila benched em at 1200mhz issue free (after i chose to extend overclock limits in Afterburner)!

thanks for pointing me towards that direction Pill Monster

    Your welcome :)

Btw I opened both roms and the modded one was quite different. It has messed up power limit settings, and programmed for VT1556 not ChIL 8228.

Guess yours must be Chil then? Anyway good u got it sorted. Game on...:D

    i get artifacts above 1265mhz

any info on how to overcome 1.3v limit ?

    It's very weird

Gpu was stable at 1.265mhz and 1.3v in furmark but unstable in 3dmark where it caused the system to hang...

I tried lowering the gpu cores and 3dmark was stable again at 1.125mhz

I then lowered the vcore and ended to a 1.125mhz/1.190v stable 3dmark run..

Gpu performs as if it cannot raise voltage over 1.190v , yet it overclocks quite good at almost stock voltage...

    What's is wrong ? Any ideas ?

Did you move the TDP slider to +20%? U prob have a low leakage GPU with a low TDP. What's the ASIC say in GPU-Z?

The power limit can be increased in bios but I strongly advise against this as it can fry the vrm's.

    I wouldn't worry too much, it's a good thing.

ASIC is really bad in the 65% range

    I raised power tune to +20% ,

The card is under water , heat is no issue I guess . Couldnt we just copy over all settings from a factory water cooled card ?

You got a high leakage card with 200W TDP and 250W power limit. The bios u have might not be the original....

It can be modded but does it really matter, I mean u have a great OC already.... anything over 1200mhz is doing well.

Can u post a GPU-Z screenshot so I can see the exact bios u have?

Actually the p/n number from the box or PCB itself would be great too.
