GPU, u may need to bump up the memory voltage or else reduce the memory clock speed.

It seems to only affect ATI cards with GDDR5 vram, which is basically 5/6/7/ series.

Well, ive just had another 100% fan today requiring a hard restart, while doing bugger all, was just left idling while i went down to get my dinner, thought i could hear something, and sure enough when i came up, fan was going full pelt, must have been going for about half hr, so gone back to the 670.

They'd have done the same, so no point trying them.

As the change they have done to their drivers started with the 12.6's, April 18th 12.5 BETAs were the last AMD drivers i could use.

you know, they do fix things sometimes...

lol

If you check the thread, no one has complained about that issue on 12.x.

Suit yourself, just a suggestion

It won't be fixed for me, as my board doesn't have an updated BIOS to fix the issue, thats whats needed, as said by AMD themselves, they've made a change to their drivers, that change won't be reversed, so the 12.8's this week, would also give the same issue, as they to have the change in them, the change came in, in the 12.6's, all i can do is get a new motherboard if i want to use my 7970 again or their newer cards, but im not prepared to do that, as ill probably have to go the whole hog and get new CPU, memory etc... as well, and im not doing that when my 7970 worked fine for over 6 months without an issue on this board, and its only stopped working because they changed something, and plus i don't want to upgrade everything yet.

I know, their last one was released in October 2010, and was only an update so Gulftown CPU's could be used, but AMD say another is needed now, to update the VGA compatability.

So why not email Biostar and ask them? If it's such a big issue then they should be taking care of it.

In either case, I would have thought a replacement motherboard would have cost a lot less.

To much hastle, as id have to find an x58 board that still works with them, as i don't know which ones are still compatible, and id have to strip my rig down and rebuild it all on the new board, its a lot easier just to pop a new card in, which ive done.
